Id leave Blakey based on a depleted fwd line but he needs to stay on his feet, kick long, dont try to break tackles, hold tackles and jump at the ball. He runs to a high ball contest and then doesnt jump.
Clarke can get the pill, but his ball use and decision making afterwards is utterly awful most of the time...

Was happy with the improvement in Hayward - liked his work today and was more involved. Still don't reckon he is a defender at all, but very happy to be proven wrong.

Good thing for Stevic that Blakey didn't kick that goal and see us losing by less than a goal.Because the free against Mills was murder. Not only was he under pressure, he was clearly pushed over the line. He should be dropped for that decision alone.

Yep sure was. Most over rated player we have and the constant career comparisons to JPK are insulting.

Don’t get me wrong, he is a solid citizen but far from a star.

Some of us were here in the bad times of the 90s and don’t want to go back again.

The club is squandering it’s strong position from the years of prosperity

Poorly coached, under utilised list, tight salary cap, and financially vulnerable, and puzzling decisions like extending the coaches highly paid contract for no reason. Not a great combination and is cause for concern.

It’s not about one game, this has been a slow car crash happening before our eyes for the last few seasons. Some of us are realists and can see what’s happening, others like you are just oblivious.
          Tiresome, repetitive negativity.

He won't get dropped, he'll get a bonus for that performance. I don't know what we ever did to him, but if there is one umpire that has always know how to find dodgy free after dodgy free against it, its Hawthorn life member Matt Stevic. Must be trying to reach life membership with two clubs now.

I tend too agree. Parker is a very good player but hes no JPK, Hanneberry or Mitchell. Him coming 2nd in the Brownlow was a fluke

PS: I've been 'here' since the 60's.
You want a medal? I'll buy you a chest to pin it on. You would have been used to mediocracy then. Because that is whatf South Melbourne were, mediocre. Bottom 4 most years. When they came up to Sydney the hope was for a more successful club. We have achieved that. But we do not want to go back down the bad old road if South Melbourne from 1950 onward. Bottom eight for all but two until we went to Sydney.

Dur there were up and down times in Sydney too. The 1990's when the club was again financially strapped. But in the main it has been a very positive move. Two premiership, finals most years.

Yes we are developing a side. But baffling selection decisions then playing a game that is not only not sustainable it is not a game that wins games. Too defensive and slow. If we are going to lose I would rather we played a style that will eventually lead to our next premiership not some negative, low scoring brand of bull@@@@.

I would rather we played our talls of we have them. Not ask smaller players to take on roles they are not suited to.

In the end we battled hard in a game that was forgettable

                            It's a term that's become terribly over-utilised.

The upside of the season is that we've solved the problem of the lack of a NEAFL competition, especially with the hubs. The AFL is the new NEAFL. Or maybe we can rebrand the league the NEWFL.

We played a lot of young guys and they generally played fairly well.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Rowbottom and Stephens were very good and the latter should get a few games in a row now to settle in. Hayward is a natural footballer and may have found a spot to use his instincts and skills. Blakey finally got moving a bit in the second half, though his kicking is off.

We’re at we’re at in rejuvenating the list and with injuries, but as long as I see kids continuing to step up, I’m ok with the trajectory.
Interesting that the stats show Stoddart had more possessions than Stephens or Warner, quite inconspicuous. All of them ahead of Blakey though with 9 possessions at 33% efficiency. Rowbottom was excellent and fitted in really well with the rest of the midfield.
