Stoddardt did a few good things, but a couple of times I thought he could have went in harder. Strange that he seemed to be playing forward flank, for most of the game, when last year he was a back flanker and sometimes winger. Should improve if he gets a few more games, though.

Plenty to work on from that showing - I liked the endeavour shown and I think we'll learn a lot from a hard game against the premiers. If we can keep up the effort and get more games into the younger guys, things will start looking up before too long.Comment

Dead set had a crack which you have to admire in the circumstances, but gee it's tough to watch. Bizarrely, it was Riewoldt's soft goal in the opening minute that was the difference in the end!
If Allir can be dropped for lack of form then I have no idea in the world what is keeping Blakey in the team. Parker clearly carrying an injury, struggled to get around the park all day.Comment

I thought our tackling / scrapping was first rate the best I can remember for a while. And considering we lost the hitouts 32 - 5 we only lost clearances 21 - 25 and we came out on top in contested possession, playing without our number one contested ball beast for most of the game.
I agree with everyone else re: Clarke, he is an appalling user of the ball and I don't see how we can persist unless he can improve.
I thought positives were Hayward in defence, Fox, Stephens Rowbottom I thought had a really solid game and I loved his goal and McLean's general play (although he got monstered in the ruck)... the suggestion someone else made that he could become a KPD is not a bad one, and we seem to be in need of one or more given Aliir's demotion. Aliir is more of an interceptor anyway. I wonder if they (or he) got cold feet about defending one on one against Tom Lynch?
Joey's injury looks like it will be a month or more out, which I guess gives someone else an opportunity to attend more centre bounces. Hope Heeney is OK. He had another one of his almost games today.
I think Blakey is constantly trying to do too much, like the time he tried to take on 3 tacklers and got pinged, which I think is a confidence issue, and I think he might benefit from being dropped. Sam Gray too I think is very low on confidence. I'd be thinking about dropping those two and Clarke.
I didn't think Warner was too bad, he went about it like a bull in a china shop early and gave away a couple of frees, then he settled. And he appeared to be playing as a FWD, so not his natural role.Comment

The Goal against Mills was a woeful decision, but apart from that I said the umpires had no real influence. We are a rabble. Some serious questions must be raised on Sam Gray's efforts. Blakey a has no lost confidence and panics when he has the ball. Hayward was better today and Stephens showed a little bit. Stoddart and Warner not up to it.Comment

Weirdly, given how undermanned the team is and the conditions, I didn't feel that was so bad a result.
I read a couple of recent articles suggesting that one "issue with the game" might be Channel 7. Obvious you might say - but if you view the commentary as a blight on the game, rather than just an annoyance, it starts to make sense. BT carrying on at one point about how we'd lost jumper numbers 1-3 from last season. The general impression that the only thing preventing Richmond playing with their usual flair was being dragged down to the level of those awful dour Swans. Or "having an opposition defend" as it's more ordinarily known.
Anyway. I like Rowbottom more every week, Papley always gives it a crack too. Thought Mills, Dawson and McLean were OK today. Saw a bit of Stephens, less of Warner. Everyone else just seems to be down on form, injured, missing or very young/small/inexperienced.Comment

Longmire had the most talented list with the player of his generation at his disposal for multiple seasons and underachieved, nada to show for it.
We no longer have a premiership contending list but he is still getting less out of it than the sum of its parts. We should be on the fringes of the eight at least, instead we can barely manage 5 goals a gameComment

It’s not rocket science, so I’ll explain it to you in simple terms

Are you kidding? Parker is a star and has been all his career. Look at his awards and statistics. He very rarely has other than a brilliant non stop, aggressive game. He is all heart and courage and represents all that we should love about our Swans. These critical comments are appalling.Comment

Clarkes disposal is one thing but at least he is head over the ball picking it up or tackling.
Get him in and under and let others run off him
Mills and Heeney need to be midfield, Heeney is a ball magnet and silky smooth in tight.
I also agree with whoever saidthey would prefer to see tall guys get monsteredas opposed to guys out of position.
Dawson in the ruck was crazyComment

Re the naysayers, sure, we are struggling.
But we are without:
* at least six best 22
* nine players over 193cm
* our three starting tall forwards
And we played nine players with 30 games or less.
Do we really think it’s a failure to inject games into the next generation of players?
As I’m not sure the alternative.

Hardwick is having a sook saying there were 75,000 players in the Richmond forward line.
I think we were successful in not allowing Richmond to play their normal game. Unfortunately we couldn't play our game either and Richmond had a wall of players that prevented us from moving it forward. We tried to keep the ball away from them. The conditions didn't help, neither did the lack of personnel.
Any word on Heeney? He didn't look good at the end. So potentially him and Joey out. Hopefully Sinclair will be ready next week.Comment
