Sinclair didn’t whack him in the head.

As far as I can see from the video replay, Frawley didn’t whack Papley in the head either. You may have seen different vision, but looks like a very solid bump to the top of Papley’s shoulder.

In any case, there are not grades of ‘bowling over off the ball’ that lead to free kicks. Though there are leading to MRO action.

To make it quite clear: I am not defending Frawley; I am annoyed with Sinclair who should know better. Why risk losing a free kick?

Just seen now on Fox Footy Clarkson also having a dig at Tom Papley suggesting he milks free kicks when asked about that free kick Papley received after kicking goal from Frawley hit. Horse was told about Clarkson's comment in his presser & he was clearly angry shaking his head and holding back his rage, finally saying Coaches shouldn't comment on other team's players.

IMO Clarkson should be fined by the AFL because his comments about today's free kick count & Papley is a definite dig at the umpiring integrity & trying to get them to focus on Papley's game. He did the same with Rampre few years ago. He is more of a master sook than coach!!!

AFL decided not to fine Clarkson over his umpiring comment. Why am i not surprised! Different rules for when you're hailed as the master coach. AFL have now set a precedent but watch them fine a lesser light coach for making similar comment in future.

I agree with all of that. But the same can be applied to Sinclair then coming in and bowling over Tom Mitchell. Nick Riewoldt was right, Sinclair’s action should have cancelled the free kick to Papley.

It was a really stupid thing to do by Sinclair (yes I know he was ‘flying the flag’ etc.). And given we were only six points in front when the final siren blew that additional Papley goal became very important. We could easily not have had the goal (just as happened to North in their match).

During the telecast Ben Dixon made comment that Dane Rampe is the ONLY defender he'd be happy to pay over $1m a year. Post match, David King said Luke Parker's captaincy is among the elite of the competition in the way he inspires & drags his team along. Adding he seems to really relish leadership like few do.

Along with JPK we are blessed with 3 great co-captains.

When a few decisions dont work out, it can make anyone look like Crazy Vossy.
The interesting one for me is the Patton recruitment. Its almost like GWS knew he was shot, because he could have come back for the final series last year, and assuming he wasnt so injury prone, could have got them a flag. But he wasnt played (to keep his value), and so far has failed at Hawthorn.
While GWS didnt get any great picks for him, they got Hawthorn to pay his full wage.

Speaking of trades, I made this list of ex-swans that we may have still kept.

I think the Hawks have picked up a couple of cheap but risky salary cap dumps from the Giants, Scully and Patton being the two that spring to mind. Scully appears to be a bust, I think its too early to tell with Patton. My understanding is he chose to sit out the end of last year and the Giants were happy for him to do so (1) because they needed to lose his $ from the salary cap. If they played him he might have done another ACL (2) they had three talls already (3) he's a bit of a dinosaur

I hate to say this, but I agree with you Barry, as I read the article about the Hawks - forcing a young ruckman out, losing a young forward out by hanging on to older players, picking up players from other clubs that haven't worked out ... I did think of another club closer to home.

That's not a bad bunch of players we've lost although many of them have not been disasters: Jetta genuinely went home and never reached the 2012 heights again, Hanners and Rohan was our doing, neither were a mistake. But Mitchell, Jones and Nankervis would all be quite handy right now. Although I see you've got Jones playing at HB not on the ball where he picked up 8 clearances against Port last week. Hanners should be listed as "Injured"

If it wasnt for his knee's patton could have been a gun. Great mark, great kick. Poor forward pressure, but that could be worked on.

Scully is all reputation, and its all reputation based on being a very early draft pick (was it #1?), and been a good runner. Neither of which makes you a good AFL player.
Looks good in a good side, but wont win you a match. But, again, Hawthorn didnt pay much for him.

Him. combined with all the other trades that havent pulled off a great player, means you can end up with a list of list-cloggers.

I can't quite put my finger on the reason I think so, but there's something un-barrylike about your last couple of posts, barry.

Anyway, it does seem that Hawthorn's recruiting strategy is blowing up in their face. And it's worth noting because some posters here (I'm thinking of one in particular) were complaining about our recent trade periods and comparing them unfavourably with Hawthorn's, but now it seems that history will judge us relatively more kindly (although it's probably still too soon to say).

I'm (mostly) happy with the way we've done things.
