He needs to be a little careful. His last hissy fit re the holding the ball decisions was rewarded with a 1-10 HTB count the following
week. Right now he just doesn't have the cattle, and he's not used to it. He's not ageing well as a coach.

I've been watching him since he played seconds, when at the SCG usually immediately in front of his family. I'm chuffed to see him growing into a fine midman.
I agree with you about Bell. His stats don't really do his game justice today - he was doing alot of tough stuff off the ball and then when he did get it, was clean with his disposals.
I'm really excited about ET - his ceiling is just massive. His work up the field was really good, especially the contest he provides in the air.

Classy response from Longmire. Classless whining from Clarkson. Just made himself look snide and petty.

But I thought James Bell was a bit of an Unsung hero of the game. He brought great presence and hardness to a team of lightweight Cygnets that could have been brushed away. Leadership from a 3rd gamer.
I thought Lyon improved in the second half, when the game was a bit more open, but when the game is slow or scrappy, I find that he whinges excessively.

And yes, I also quite liked Bell, today. He seems to have gradually transformed his game, from an athletic, but only sometimes effective NEAFL player, into someone who has some genuine toughness at AFL level. And speaking of unsung heroes, I thought Harry Cunningham had another very good game. His disposal was generally assured, he often popped up in the right place to relieve pressure on a team mate and made plenty of tackles. I think he's been in good form all season and I'd be very surprised if he isn't in the Skilton Medal top ten.

IMO Clarkson should be fined by the AFL because his comments about today's free kick count & Papley is a definite dig at the umpiring integrity & trying to get them to focus on Papley's game. He did the same with Rampre few years ago. He is more of a master sook than coach!!!
People show their true colours when they're under great pressure. Under pressure, Horse is dignified, composed and respectful. Clarkson, under pressure, is aggressive, bitter and nasty.

(Channel 7 reporting that Papley has responded to Clarkson online.)

Happy to see Bell out there again and thought he went well. Good to see Ling finally too. Thought he went alright, especially in the last quarter when Rampe had one working hand. Hope that injury isn't too serious.

Also freed Mills to go mid. I've been agnostic about that move to now, but you can see how much he enjoyed it there.

The Papley double goal was hilarious. The kind of thing that would be infuriating as an opposition supporter, but funny when it's your team.

I enjoyed the "I can snap this!" look on ET's face - that sudden confidence moment.

Can't help but wonder how different the team would look if Reid had been fully-fit all these years.

Good intent from pretty much everyone I thought, hard at the ball, kept coming, just good that they went at it and got the win.

Love how the Hawks list is in serious decline, overpaid for O'Meara and Wingard, the players they got from GWS for junk picks are turning out to be - junk :-) no way back for them, no finals for years, delicious it will be

And how can he, the coach of the Hawks complain about umpiring? The count should have been higher if they paid all the throws.

He rarely gives us credit when we beat them.

I just hate everything about the Hawks and I love beating them ????.
Yes, he's being both brattish and totally wrong. It's hard to see how Papley milked that, when he was blindsided by someone 20 kilos heavier, whacking into him at pace.

The likely scenario for next week, is that Clarkson will apologise tomorrow, but that won't stop him seeking out a coffee with Gil. Nor will it stop people in the media tut-tutting, about the odd occasion when Paps has overemphasised the illegal contact that he has received. Nor will it stop him being pilloried on social media. Which will probably lead to Papley being flagrantly fouled in our next game, but the umpires keeping their whistles away from their mouths.

Channel 7 said they were going to expand on it at the end of the Port/Saints game but it might just be a bit of sensationalism on their part.

The one I saw was on insta. On the 7AFL post about it with the quote from cranky Clarkson.
                        He just wrote ‘LOL’

Just want to echo some of the sentiment on here
                          - thought Harry as been strong all year
                          - Fox has taken his opportunity and smashed it.
                          - Mills in the midfield yes!!
                          - Rampe - should be in any discussion on best defender in the comp.

Let's not fall for one of Clarko's classic deflections. We out-toughed them in the clinches tonight - they wilted under our pressure. Great stuff and a very pleasing win. Character building stuff for a young team.

Spot on. We smashed them after half time. They were never really in it. Score board flattered them.

What a game from our cygnets. We had a few really inexperienced players under double digits who fought well. IMO, it doesn't matter if we lose games this year as long as we play with this afternoon's intent.

Rowbottom went to another level - he was sensational. Ling, ET and Stephens do not look out of place. I like Fox down back and Papley should be a future captain of our club if he keeps playing like that (and if we manage to keep him). Parker and Rampe were sensational. There's a couple of players I cringe at whenever they go near the ball, but I'm not going to spoil the feeling of a well fought win to name them.

Clarko is a petty, little troll when he loses. Will he be let back into Vic to have a coffee with Gill in-between games?
