The thing about Taylor's stupidity is that he put the lives and livelihoods of hundreds of people at risk (AFL competition). So that goes into the upper end on the stupidity scale.
It's going to be hard for Taylor to be around the club knowing the damage he's done. I don't know if he's strong enough to stick it out, because the road to redemption is going to be long.Comment

WA police said he “can” quarantine with the team. I guess the question is, will he?Comment

Agree - the thing is if another player at another club did exactly the same thing (ie Elijahs actions) we would be shouting from the roof tops that the kid should be suspended indefinitely, sent packing that he’s put the competition in jeopardy etc. just because he’s one of ours doesn’t mean he should be exempt from criticism. This isn’t an end of season trip type situation. There are Laws that have been broken.
I don’t buy that he doesn’t understand the Hub situation, the players would have been Lectured continually & daily about how high the stakes are, what they can & mustn’t do and yet he and the GF still hatched a plan.
They knew what they were doing and didn’t care about the possible ramifications.
Did he think that he was there on a holiday??
He actually requested the number 37 - and they gave it to him - wish they’d left it a few more years now. It may seem harsh but he has had an incredible amount of support from the club from day 1, but totally disregards the situation.
It’s on insult to the #37 - both his pathetic actions off field and soft actions on field.
Saying he is just a kid - give me a spell. Also being indigenous absolutely should not give him a free pass.
He maliciously smuggled in his GF and absolutely knew he was breaching the protocol and breaking the law. And if he didn’t know then he is a bigger idiot than I thought.Comment

The thing is when I was 19 (and pretty sure the posters here are the same) we weren’t playing elite level AFL FOOTBALL during a global pandemic, but still with the world at our feet, staying in a 5 star resort for a few weeks. As I said in an earlier post - the players & staff would be getting briefed daily on the do’s & donts. They know the deal. He is still getting paid quite handsomely. They are under such scrutiny - there really is no excuse for this - why take the risk if your footy career meant so much? . And, despite what some on here think, I’m no kill joy. I have a family member who’s the head physio with an NRL Club. They can’t have visitors to their home. The kids can only go to school and that’s it, no visit g friends or relatives - my nephew goes to the grounds, home, game, ground, home - and all the while During this crapper of a year he and all NRL medical staff are on job keeper whilst the players still get full pay!, and yet the medical staff are keeping those players well enough to be on the ground! !!! So this is why I’m so disappointed when players do such stupid things when the majority are doing it tough & doing the right thing.Last edited by Wardy; 16 August 2020, 06:01 PM.I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

This is absolutely spot on.

This explains the severity, which in my view is fair. Impressive honesty from Harley. It's going to be a fair way back to win trust and respect.
Sydney chief executive Tom Harley said Taylor's actions were "very, very, very naive and very foolish" and put not just the AFL season but the wider industry at risk.
"The facts are Elijah's acts were intentional. He knew what he was doing, he knew he was breaching," Harley told 3AW Radio on Sunday.
AFL 2020: Western Australia Premier Mark McGowan says Sydney Swans, AFL 'let us down' after Elijah Taylor's hub breachComment

Just saw Mark McGowan on the news and he didn't hold back criticizing the AFL and the Swans. Said he was so disappointed because he had been assured that this would not happen.
I'm pretty angry that the actions of one has effected our great club's reputation, to the point that if the club cut ET, then so be it.Comment

I can’t believe the number of people getting on their high horse about this. He’s stuffed up but I’d like to think that a 19yo kid would get a second chance rather than be written off by the club and it’s supporters.Comment

I don't think he's being written off by anyone. It's a significant mistake, but he'll have a chance to redeem himself.Comment

I certainly don’t condone ETaylor’s behaviour. However, given the immense public exposure he is receiving, I am genuine concerned for Elijah’s mental health. It’s not an excuse. But I expect that he would be very fragile at the moment and would be feeling considerable pressure. Many people who are in quarantine in hotels (less than 5 star ones) have failed to comply. They might have their face on the TV and perhaps been named. But they are soon forgotten (although likely sanctioned). Elijah is very publicly reported on and scrutinised. And will remain on public record for a long time. When google searched, his name will for a very long time be synonymous with this incident. This is a lasting stigma to burden a young man with. Don’t get me wrong, Elijah did the wrong thing. He has been punished. But the young man still needs support. And I hope the Club, Swans supporters and the broader AFL community give it to him. This sort of situation can turn dire for an emotionally fragile individual with potentially severe consequences ... ending far more than a career ...Comment

Really ?? and you’d be so accomodating to a player at another club doing the same thing?? why should one of our players be exempt from scrutiny for doing something that had the potential to put the season in jeopardy? It might sound dramatic but that’s why they are doing the hub/ bubble scenario - Its there for a reason. The previous indiscretions Of other players & coaches at other clubs clearly Wasn’t a deterrent - so the AFL came down hard. Sadly it’s always the Swans that cop these things.Last edited by Wardy; 16 August 2020, 07:03 PM.I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

I don't imagine that Elijah's suspension relieves him of any of the non-playing responsibilities he has as a contracted player. He must still have to go to meetings, training sessions, etc.. I would think that he travels to Cairns with the team and finishes out the season like every other player, except that he's not going to playing games. I'm not sure if the suspension applies to scratch matches.
I agree that there are mental health concerns and he needs to be supported. I'm all for giving him every chance to redeem himself for his error in judgment, and I hope he can navigate his way through this difficult period. The off season is not going to be easy either. Maybe even more difficult than the present.
I think the Swans are a thoughtful and fair club, but the standards are high and they're not too forgiving. We'll just have to see how this one plays out.
If what Elijah has done is a breach of contract which can constitute dismissal for cause, his future could be in serious doubt if there are the foreshadowed list size reductions. I think his name goes to the top of list if cuts have to be made.Last edited by Ludwig; 16 August 2020, 07:20 PM.Comment

Come to think of it, I don’t actually know any of my mates who did either.
I was studying my arse off at uni and trying to make the most of a fantastic opportunity with a professional services organisation. Wouldn’t have dreamt of doing anything stupid to risk losing that.
Standard excuse for poor behaviour. Just young and “doesn’t everyone do it”
