Gould better show he is going to be a triple brownlow medal winning superstar when he does debut, or there are going to be a lot of disappointed people out there. Not saying he won't be a good player - but the amount of people on other forums in particular (and social media) constantly banging on about his inclusion, or lack thereof, has been impressive lol. You'd think he was a bonafide star the way some (not here) have been going on about him. All it seems on the basis he had good early signs in his last year playing SANFL.

Was interesting to read Laidler's comments again about him - seemed almost like a copy past job from a couple of weeks ago. He played well I thought again last weekend so must be a chance if McCartin doesn't get up, but I feel like they want to see a month plus of really solid football ideally.

They gave Gould and Amartey a bit of a wrap so it could be a sign for this week. I think we need Stephens in the side for his outside run.

Laughable. 95% of those who have been going on about his selection for the last year dont see footy in anything other than draft picks ! Wtf is the interest for irish kid ? Picked up same draft plays the same position looked better than Gould so far but no one gives a rats arse about him being selected cause he wasnt a top 30 pick!!!!

Well I was at Metricon Stadium on Saturday, The Bloods. Were you there too? He looked impressive to us in the Swans faithful. That's the basis of our comment.

It's understandable that's there's more hype and expectation for a high draft pick than an international rookie that doesn't even have a highlight reel as a reference point. But there are many, including myself, who are quite interested in Barry O'Connor and have high hopes for him as a player. Added to the Gould hype has been that he's come with a Parkeresque physique, plus the speed and long kicking, some of which was on display in the VFL game on Saturday.

Not being able to play regular footy last year was more of a setback for BOC than for Australian players, since it's typical for Irish players to take a bit of time to acclimatise to our game.

Things are looking positive at this early stage of the season for both Gould and BOC. It's hard to say who is more advanced at this stage. I don't find the Laidler summaries very helpful. They're like a kid's homework assignment who is committed to do the absolute minimum to get a passing grade.

Strange world where we agree lol!

Its not that I hope he fails - I hope he does look like a triple brownlow medallist from day one lol. But the hyping of just a kid on the basis a few people seeing him do well in SANFL has been very high I will say! I've liked what I've seen the last couple of weeks with him, but can see the clear intent in the coaches comments too. And the fact that we have a fairly strong history of taking our time with defensive players in learning their craft in reserves.

Reckon we should threaten to cancel our memberships if they don’t pick the Man Child this week.

Thilthorpe did next to bugger all in three or four SANFL games for Crows reserves but he was selected for last weeks AFL game and we saw how he exploded onto the big stage.

Hopefully Gould is close to his chance seeing as how he's running into form in the VFL. BOC seems an exciting package of physical attributes, I've got high hopes there. fingers crossed.

Good point, Gould may well find another gear when he gets into the firsts. The opposite phenomena is also true, Logan's efforts in the half he played in the two's may be an example of this.

Would we have to give back the tote bag?

Actually, now that you mention it, I could probably use the tote bag, to store all the other Swans membership stuff, that's currently just lying in a cupboard.

Burn the tote bag on the steps of the SCG

The cult following for Gould is more to do with him being a throwback in the footballer mould - similar to Lachie Jones at Port.
If reserves form was ever a driver for hype, Matthew Davis would have been the most hyped Swan of the 2000s.
