Joey's comment has me more confident that Warner may be picked.....but it won't be at the expense of Rowbottom. Maybe Hewitt?

      Sinclair for Reid

      Rampe McCartin Lloyd
      Melican Dawson Cunningham

      Hickey Kennedy Mills
      Florent Rowbottom Blakey

      Heeney Reid Hayward
      Papley McDonald Wicks

      Gulden, Campbell, Parker, Hewett

And agree that Warner could get a run! Not sure who misses (Haywood, Wicks or ?)

The fact they played Hewett as a half back with Lloyd to return makes me think he’s in serious danger of missing out.

          Good point.

Note to mod's.....I think I froze the '2021 pre-season general footy chat' thread with an ABC link. Please remedy.

I am a little curious about the injury report as it doesn't mention Reid or Hewett. The reason I say this is that there were two photos on social media recently which concerned me. One from Sam Naismith at the Guernsey Presentation of Sam Reid with an elbow brace on, the other from George's partner which had George with his hand in a brace. Make of that what you will. Swans aren't always forthcoming in injury reports for whatever reason.

Nice call. I could live with that. I reckon Sinclair is a real handful as a KPF and a decent chop-out ruck. It means we lose the swingman role Reid has taken on, but we do have Mills and Heeney to bring into the back half when necessary.

Although it has been suggested up here, especially before Raynor was injured that Neale will spend more time forward in 2021. Hewett may have been getting a sighter as a rebounding HB defender in the context of following Neale from on ball then into the forward line?

I think Hewett playing in defence was just an experiment, in that we are overloaded with midfielders and need to reposition a few players. Fox would have played the game in defence except for his finger injury.

I really hate the 23rd man the way it's been structured. We will have to rotate players through this spot if we want to ensure that the selected players get enough game experience. I would have designed the 23rd man with the added stipulation that the 23rd man can come on without restriction in the second half, effectively extending the interchange bench to 5 players for the 2nd half, while remaining a medical emergency in the first half.

For this game, I would have Hewett and Warner in the 22 and make Hayward the medical emergency. Longer term, I would think about using Sam Gray as the medical emergency, unless there is a VFL game an unused medical emergency can play in after the AFL game.

Unlikely that Hayward would be an emergency if he is the one who plays the most minutes on the ground. We probably would name a player who is a utility player - Hayward is in that mould. Maybe Stephens. His running will help create overlap and his kicking is or maybe it is Warner.

Or Hewett. He's pretty versatile. He can play as a ball-winning mid, a defensive mid, a medium forward and now has HBF added to his resume.

I think the final two spots in the 22 will come down to a choice between Warner, Hewett and Hayward now that the three debutants have been confirmed. I expect whoever misses out will become the 23rd player, though four emergencies will be named and the club doesn't have to nominate which is the 23rd man until shortly before the start of the game.

Great to see the three new boys in!

I would pick Warner ahead of Hewett.

Im loving the optimism, but I think we are going to get a bit of a wakeup call from Brisbane. Three debutants while exciting is not really a very good indicator of a strong team and Brisbane have a very strong mature team across the park.

We couldnt match GWS who are predicted to fall out of the eight, Brisbane is another level.

I am not so convinced of our demise in this match. Rd 1 throws up curveballs. Better to catch the Brions straight outta the gate than mid year when they are on a roll. They are most peoples favourites for the flag, signed a big recruit in the off season, firmly in the premiership window. All the pressure and expectation is on them. Our Bloods have a young list - they play with freedom and excitement without the weight of expectation. Debutants, so exciting. Their inclusion will make our champion players Joey Parks and Ramps lift. Young Swans ready to take the next step and become star Swans. It all starts here. We have been building for a couple of years and our rise up the ladder has to start with an unexpected win that nobody saw coming - why cant that be this week??
