General Swans news

Just watched the Brandon Jack interview on Dyl and Friends and wow. Very honest and raw, with BJ admitting that 28 games was probably more than what he deserved to play with his level of talent, and also all the negative thoughts and behaviours that plague some fringe players in their desperate hope to make the first team.
Spare a thought for Stephens and why he might want a trade. Young players, especially those taken at the top end of the draft are just so hungry and desperate to succeed, but may not have the insight yet to do what it takes to make it.
Also very good to hear BJ talk about the respect he had for McVeigh and how he was a such a strong leader at the club.Comment

I suspect he (Brandon J) also thought McVeigh was nuts. But you often can't have one thing without the other and that is fine. Most disturbing
thing was that Dylan Buckley didn't appear to know who Radiohead is. Anyway, the podcast is definitely worth checking out. They are both
intelligent and likable young blokes. I will get the book. The last book I read from a Swans player was Barry Halls book. Not sure why I did that.
Other general news ; I suppose everyone saw the email yesterday announcing the final membership tally for the year is 50,144. Pretty decent
I reckon considering the current situation. Apparently all the other clubs membership numbers held up well this year too.Last edited by KTigers; 4 August 2021, 04:12 AM.Comment

Speaking of Swans books, the last one I read was a compilation titled How to play your position by Barry Mitchell and Damian O'Sullivan. Mitchell interviewed the All-Australian 1996 team with the intention to bridge the gap between the general public and star footballers.
I've only read Lockett, Kelly and Roos' advice (so far) about playing their respective positions, but I've been impressed with what they have to say about the intricacies of the game. Lockett in particular. Some of his other books are highly cliched, but his intelligence comes through.
Anyway, it's great news about our membership tally.Comment

So for those interested in expanding their library of Swans related tomes, the Barry Hall book is called "Pulling No Punches". It is "written"
with Michael Cowley. It was published in 2011 by Pier 9, an imprint of Murdoch Books. Murdoch Books is part of Allen & Unwin these days.Comment

And when will the less loved family members, the Black Sheep of the family, be reunited with the players? Will some of the ratbags be left to rot in Queensland?Comment

ESPN did an analysis of Champion data about kicking stats to figure out who were the best kicks from each club: AFL 2021 Your club's best kickers - short, long, under pressure and in front of goal (espn.com).
They found this for our club:
Sydney
Most kicks: Jake Lloyd (323)
Best short kick: Robbie Fox (+13.8%)
Best long kick: Tom Papley (+10.4%)
Best kick under pressure: Lance Franklin (+29.8%)
Best kick for goal: Justin McInerney (+30.7%)
Best overall kicking efficiency: Lance Franklin (+12%)
Unsurprisingly, Franklin is the best rated kick at the Swans, but he doesn't hold top billing at the club in front of the big sticks. That belongs to impressive youngster McInerney. Running defender Lloyd once again leads the way for total kicks at the club, assisted by him taking the majority of kicks-outs.All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated, and well supported in logic and argument than others. -Douglas Adams, author (11 Mar 1952-2001)Comment

If the siren goes on GF day, and a bloke has a set shot from 40m, on a 45 degree angle, who would you want?
My pick is Parker. (Or, if he can handle the moment, Hayward).'Delicious' is a fun word to sayComment
