Rampe is listed as 188; Gould at 191. Not sure 3 cm would have reduced Lobb influence.
Brand at 198 is the only "tall", with McCartin only 193.
It is a gap in our list, no doubt, but not sure Gould will fill THAT gap, but has the potential to contribute in other ways
Agree that we cannot keep asking Rampe to play on the big forwards. If Brand is not going to be that player then why not put Reid down back, McDonald at FF or CHF along with Buddy and Heeney.
We desperately more height in our defence as the big forwards are now coming back into the game with the latest rule changes.Comment

I was spewing we let Mitchell go at the time but thank @@@@ we did because he is just a run of the mill mid these days , just an accumulating plodder. That is what RB is heading towards but hes not even an accumulator , just a plodder !Comment

Ripper game of footy; shame about the result.
Besides the joy of watching the Bud do his thing, I absolutely loved the Mundy/Fyfe vs Joey/Parker contest - four of the best midfielders from the last decade, all very different in style, all still having great moments in the heat of battle - was great to watch.
In the end could have gone either way - unlike last week, a dreadful quarter did us in. We had a bunch of passengers but then Freo also seemed to have several who had little involvement.
Speaking of passengers, one that baffled me was Heeney - was almost invisible all night and when he was around the ball just seemed to be a beat behind the play. Was all very strange as I didn't expect Freo to have a match up for him. You can't see much on the telecast but perhaps it was just "one of those nights" for a guy we know regularly crawls through cut glass for the R&W.
Look forward to a longer and more balanced effort next week. Kudos to the defence (especially JD) who were immense all night.Comment

I reckon there is something to that re Stephens, but right now he's not in our best 22 (one could argue that the switch for JMac cost us the game) - so it's a helluva price to pay for a club that could justifiably have top 4 ambitions to play a kid who hasn't earnt his spot.Comment

Many on this site have to remember how long it took Dawson to crack the senior team, about 3 years. So let's give our young guys like Stephen and Gould some time to adapt their game to the next level. I'm sure they will find their feet as obviously have the skills as Linear doesn't make too many mistakes.Comment

I'll just remind everyone that we've beaten Fremantle away a total of four times since they entered the competition in 1995: in 1998, 1999, 2010 and 2016. We've lost to them away 11 times, plus two finals losses, for a win percentage of 24%.
At home, we've lost to them four times, with 13 wins, 1 draw and two finals wins, for a win percentage of 78%. The losses were in 1995, 1996, 2010 and 2011, with the draw in 2013.
The home ground advantage is quite clear here."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment

I think we’re seriously mismanaging Blakey based on what he’s doing - when he’s up the ground he’s all over the place like a headless chook, and most of his disposals are either dinky little chip kicks or across his body, most of which are missing their targets.
I’m not saying to take all the flair out of his game, but I’m genuinely shocked to see week after week him taking such low percentage options that we’re clearly not (successfully at least) helping him iron out.
An extended run the reserves playing a disciplined role without trying all that highlight reel stuff is what he needs.
With McLean I think we have to understand there is a lot more going on than what you see on the TV screen. The fact Buddy was isolated 1-1 I50 would be directly linked to McLean taking his man away. I agree there were a few contests where Cox marked that we’re disappointing, but overall I think he did his job to allow Buddy space.Comment

Stephens had a good last quarter and will be a gun eventually. JMac is a potential star and we don't want to run him into the ground especially of there is a back problem. We are talking about guys who are very early on in their careers. The upside of those two plus Warner, Rowbottom, Gulden and Campbell is huge and we need to be patient. We have already won more games than we did last year and we may or may not play finals. Our eventual midfield depth is strong but won't peak for a couple of years. Best to hasten slowly in terms of the young guys' development. I would consider giving Warner a breather as well.Comment
