I hope he is tried there in reserves, excels, and returns to our AFL team. He has so much talent and we would be an improved side if he could live up to his ability.
Without being too harsh, half back requires discipline, concentration and poise disposing the ball under pressure. So far, those have not been features of Blakey's play.

I don't think we could play him and Lloyd in the same backline. But yes, I'd love to see him bringing the ball out of the back half. Pressure generally increases as you go up the ground - so Blakey will likely find himself with more time in his decision making and use, and could be a great asset.

I'm a Blakey fan and think he will come good, but he needs to spend a solid block of time in the VFL to develop some consistency and form. He's been gifted enough games already, time for him to earn his spot back.

For those wanting him on the HBF, surely you'd like to see him perform there at VFL level first

The other key attribute that he lacks at the moment is the ability to tackle. I'm sure we'll find the right role for him.

            I agree.

Blakey will have to improve his contest work if he wants to perform well as an AFL player.
He can be the line breaker runner off the half back even as a winger if he is disciplined enough and rushes back to get the disposal and run the right lines and be ever present.
He could be the third tall forward at his height if he understands the work ethic and the contest work and the pressure acts he needs to perform in the forward half.
He is talented enough but now needs to put the hard work into the role he gets.

Here's hoping there's no surprise out - for example Buddy with his knee, and that Hickey and Fox are both fit

                IN: Hickey, Fox
                OUT: McLean, Hewett

Wow! Some big outs and ins.

OUT: Callum Sinclair (Omitted), Dylan Stephens (Omitted), Hayden McLean (Omitted), Kaiden Brand (Omitted) plus Lewy Taylor
IN: Joel Amartey, Logan McDonald, Robbie Fox, Tom Hickey

Which is 3 talls out for 3 talls in plus Fox for Stephens. I wonder if they'll push Hewett back into the midfield?
Could also see it as Fox for Brand which means a taller mid/forward setup I guess

                    Teams have dropped.
                    Ins McDonald, Amartey, Fox, Hickey
                    Outs Sinclair, McLean, Stephens, Brand

No injuries with all our outs being omissions.

Suspect McLean's ruck work has let him down with Amartey coming in on the back of some strong forward / ruck form in ressies.

Brand unlucky but with a smaller Saints forward line, Fox is a logical change.

McDonald for Stephens sensible - Logan due for a run, going ok in reserves and we're well stocked for midfield options.

A sign of how well Hickey has done for us is that there would be no arguments from anyone that he automatically replaces Sinclair when fit. When we drafted Hick, I doubted he would be even an improvement over Sinclair - how wrong I was!

I like it, even though we won it shows you need to earn your spot. Hickey for Sinclair a no brainer, Amartey keeps getting talked up as a big improver by the coaching staff so we get to see what he's got at this level, McDonald for McLean, Fox for Brand, Stephens needs to show more as he panics under pressure and doesn't get enough of the ball anyway.

Fox replaces Brand in defence... Check

Hickey replaces Sinclair as main ruck ... Check

McDonald replaces McLean at FF... Check

Amartey replaces Stephens, comes in as back up ruck to support Hickey... Check

Last one is questionable but Hickey does need support and Amartey might be better than Sinclair, it also suggests our coaches think we have enough runners at ground level?? Hope thats the case

Amartey replaces McLean as second ruck
                          Hickey for Sinkers
                          Fox for Brand
to me means Logan for Dylan ... they will clearly play different roles ... Was Stephens playing wing or half forward last week?

It's potentially a challenging forward line for the Saints with Buddy, Heeney, Papley, Logan, Amartey, Hayward and Wicks

Only if Mcdonald and amartey do anything

If they dont compete then it will be a very easy day for saints defenders

No guarantee of contributions from hayward or wicks either who are prone to going missing

Tough for Brand but I get it - the other 3 omissions all seem fair. Bit of a crossroads for Stephens you'd have to say.

Looking forward to seeing Logan Mac back on deck.

As opposed to the massive forward contribution from Sinclair, McLean and Stephens last week?

Never said they were good ! I am not criticising the changes either im saying that its not as easy as just turning up with a strong forward line and expecting things to go our way every one of them will still have to perform and do their role
