Round 14: the other games. They're all other games.

The Suns have been very insipid lately. To the extent that I can't really see Stewart Dew lasting much longer. During the second and third quarters, the TV coverage was highlighting the pressure ratings of the two sides. Port waivered between very good and elite, while the Suns only occasionally got up to poor. And I doubt if they would have got that far, if it wasn't for the tireless efforts of Touk Miller.Good weekend so far, the throwing and umpire favourites WB get beat after the siren, Carlton continue to be poo in the midst of a revue. Just need the Injectors to beat the Hawks to complete a satisfying weekend.
Gold Coast are a huge worry for the AFL, just continue to be soft opposition except when we play them! A lot of young talent OOC this year and next, King, Lukocious, Rowell, Anderson, Rankine, etc. If they don't get it together really quickly it will be another round of go homers and back to ground zero. The Vic and SA teams will be squabbling over the talent heading south.
I've seen games this year, where their pressure has been excellent, so I'm not sure why they can't do it now. But I suspect that the Suns management, might be thinking that it has something to do with the coach.
I also feel that Teague is now very insecure at Carlton. I'm sure that many people there, will be totally sick of starting the season feeling confident, only for things to fizzle out without a finals appearance.Comment

Certainly was a highlight of the game.
Sometimes you see a game that makes you think "this club/coach has lost its players". Almost no one from Carlton looked like they even wanted to be there last night. I reckon the end is close for Teague.Comment

Touk Miller is a beauty, isn’t he? Never plays a bad game and it’s weird that his example isn’t filtering through. There is something odd at that club right now as they arguably have the most rounded group of young talent since their inception but no collective prowess. The Suns have been very insipid lately. Yes, he's one of my favourite non-Swans players. And in the past, the Suns have almost always had very lengthy injury lists: which was a factor in their poor showings. Now their injury list isn't too bad, so that isn't the obvious reason for their malaise.Touk Miller is a beauty, isn’t he? The indiscretions were hardly worth suspension it has to be said.

I heard a way to help gold coast is to give them more soft cap space (for coaches, staff). In think this has merit. One of the problems for Northern clubs is attracting good staff. In Victoria there is plenty to choose from, and quite a few will simply volunteer.
I also agree with Tony Cochrane (GC president) who said that the AFL should not grant a 19th license to tassy. A 19th team doesn't add any games, so it s just an added cost. Far better to keep 18, and relocate and existing team, or shut down an existing team, and establish a new tassy team.Comment

Clawing and deliberately standing on leg leaving stop marks?.Yeah - let it go.

Cochrane is a loudmouth who should worry about his own club. Perennial underachievers and he is in charge of it. Should be replaced.I heard a way to help gold coast is to give them more soft cap space (for coaches, staff). In think this has merit. One of the problems for Northern clubs is attracting good staff. While I agree with Blood Fever's comments about Cochrane more generally, I think he is spot on about a 19th licence. I'd keep it at 18 teams too, and tell one of the garbage teams either move or your time is up. AFL won't have the guts to do it howevre.I heard a way to help gold coast is to give them more soft cap space (for coaches, staff). In think this has merit. Cochrane seems to be the only president which takes an australia wide view to the AFL. The Victorian media hate him. His suggestion to move the GF to Perth this year put them into a massive hissy fit.
He should run the AFL.

North seem to play better in Tasmania, than they do in Melbourne. Maybe it's time to make the move permanent.I heard a way to help gold coast is to give them more soft cap space (for coaches, staff). Was it deliberate? I'm not so sure.....and much like the head high bump is treated, no resulting injury from the 'clawing' leads to a lesser penalty. Maybe this should be changed.

Because it would ideally have to be a Victorian team.....like Norf.Comment

Yeah, because if you play it right you keep your Melbourne support. Tasy will so need thatComment

We were at the game. It was quite something. How many times have you seen players try the torp after the siren and it goes nowhere?
It went 67.6M according to the AFL website. On another note ; Jeremy Finlayson's set shot kicking has to be close to the best in the game.Comment
