Agree with that. Would put Heeney in at centre bounces and then play him on wing. We are one paced in there although in the second half even Kennedy and Parker looked quick. Florent lifted in second half as well
Huge win.

I never read this blog when the game’s on. Afterwards some of the nonsense is amusing, but sometimes it’s just aggravating. Seriously, we got on top of them halfway through the second quarter and never looked back. Great effort at any time, even more meritorious considering the circumstances.Comment

From gor blime to bloody marvellous.
Love the way the youngsters and oldsters played off each other - augurs well for the future. He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment

It’s funny how change can sometimes work.
Cunningham goes out.
J-Mac and Blakey look really threatening as attacking half back flankers.
Should Cunningham still be in this defence despite having a strong season?Comment

Agreed. We had two players who played a full game the previous day. GWS had none. It meant that some of our players played much bigger minutes than normal because RB and Stephens didn’t have the legs. Errol Gulden played 98% of the game! That’s nuts for any midfield/half forward let alone a player in his first year.I never read this blog when the game’s on. My kids in screaming at 1/4 time that the kitchen was flooded. Quite relieved to have another disaster to get away from the one that was unfolding on the tv.
Fun to read back over the posts here. 1 crisis averted. Now for the emergency plumber.

No. We did not get on top halfway through the second quarter at all. We improved at that time. Toward the end of that quarter we were far better. We still allowed them far too much space in the second quarter.I never read this blog when the game’s on. Afterwards some of the nonsense is amusing, but sometimes it’s just aggravating. It was the start of the third that signaled we were not going to allow them space and time. We upped the anti in the pressure stakes. They never recovered. Mind you our pressure continued until the end of the game.
The beauty of our win was that the solution to our first half woes was quite simple. BRING THE INTENSITY, WHICH THEN BRINGS THE PRESSURE. Simole really. From this came easy entries into the forward 50 and an inability of GWS to take the ball out if that zone.

Ummm. Blakey and J-Mac have been playing off the half-back since the West Coast game. Cunningham played those games too.Comment

At half time we had 40 less possessions then at game end we had 34 more possessions. In the first half we were smashed at centre clearances until the last 2 goals of the 2nd quarter. The final centre clearance stats; us 14 them 9. So we got quick movement into the forward line and the pressure came on their backs. Then as we got on top we started running the ball through the centre.
Stunning games by Parker and Kennedy.
Our tackling after quarter time was outstanding and our closing pressure when they had the footy went through the roof.
Blakey is showing why we were desperate to draft him and J.Mc just gets better.Comment
