Nice win. We looked tired and Heeney provided the spark we needed to push ourselves a bit harder and then the injuries for them came that sealed that game.
Buddy wants to provide the spark but always ends up doing the wrong thing when he tries to be aggressive.

Blakey is doing amazingly well to take the game on but has to get a bit of nuance to his game. The pressure in their front half was non existent and Blakey revelled in that.
We need a bit of spark in the middle of the ground and Hopefully we add Harry, Mills and Chad and that should be enough. But not sure if one of the on ball players needs a rest too.
Ronke, Rowbottom, Bell the ones to watch.

Our injury list is pretty good and if it remains so, we should do some damage come finals time.

I watched the Port game and he got two marks after clearly pushing the defender in the lower back with his hands - clear shoves, when they are in the air, and scored a goal each time. You'd be livid if you were a Crows supporter as both were so obvious.

Why are we so quick to write players off …Roble first gane back

Let’s see we wrote Anartey , Blakey off at least for a while there
Not me - I didn't write Amartey, Blakey, or Robbie Fox off.

In fact, the only two players in the team that played today who I can't see futures for are Ronke and Bell. Bell has played 19 AFL games. He has shown effort and intensity in every one of them. However, I just don't think he has as much ability to influence a game as players who didn't play today - Mills, Cunningham, Warner, Campbell, McDonald, Amartey.

Go to the AFL stats website for James Bell. He is ranked below average for almost every metric. Please don't misconstrue this as a personal vendetta - I'd love for James to succeed. For me, the evidence doesn't support him being in our best 22. Good for you by supporting him and it seems like I'm unlikely to change your mind.

FWIW, I'd rather be talking about the players who I think will succeed than those who I think won't.

Not a great outcome for us, we want the Dockers to beat Brisbane in their home game coming up.

No one has mentioned that by winning that we will now definitely be playing finals :-)

Injury list now almost non existent, successful senior return for Reid, Melican played for GWS reserves today, a refreshed Mills and Harry back this week.

Only Chad Warner amongst best 22 to resume playing

Oddly, if we do win our next 4, we are still a good chance of finishing 6th yet with 16 wins and 6 losses. On multiple occasions in the past decade, a 16-6 record was good enough for the minor premier or the team finishing second at the end of the home and away season. Which suggests it's a very even comp.

Be nice if GWS take down Essendon.

Giants 8 points ahead deep into the last quarter.

Does Errol Gulden remind anyone of a young Chad Wingard?

Seems like they are both similar players. Mainly wing / half forwards, quick, smart, great left foot kicks.

Does anyone agree with the comparison? Can anyone pull up a statistical analysis of Wingard v Gulden at the same age.

J-Mac seemed a little quieter today. I didn’t see the same intensity in his running as I remember from last week. Blakey seemed this week to be providing greater drive from half back compared to J-Mac. Could J-Mac be getting a bit weary or does he have an injury restricting him?

So happy to see Blakey do well. Most on Red and White and in the crowd had written him off. Now the same people are applauding his running, marking and wonderful left foot.

Well done Blakey. You found your spot.

On closer review of the Franklin elbow incident, I think there may be a case for him to get off. The way I see it, he was being pulled down and swung to the left, his knees buckle and he's going to ground, so he switches the ball from his left to his right hand, then swings his left are to brace his fall, but the elbow catches Ryan in the face. I don't see it as an intentional elbow to the face, but incidental to the play. I still think he will get a week as the MRO will grade the action as careless, as it was likely to make head high contact.

I don't think it's a big deal if he gets a week off. He probably should get a little rest before the finals. As long as Reid is in the side, we can carry one of our younger forwards in the team.

JMac had some man on man defensive responsibilities this game, which somewhat limited his attacking opportunities. When he did get a chance to attack, he looked okay. Blakey seemed to be the one given more freedom on the counterattack.

I don't think most on here had written off Blakey. There's just the usual contingent that are quick to delist a player whenever he has a form slump. Sometimes even one poor game is enough for paper stamping vitriol.

Fox, Lloyd, Hewett, Cunningham, Blakey, Bell, Ronke, Florent, Wicks, Hayward, Rowbottom, Reid, Dawson and even Heeney have felt the wrath of RWO at times. The virtue of patience runs thin in footyland.
