Not persecuted , just annoying and a bit hypocritical . Pre-draft everyone drags the kids from pillar to post , stay away from this kid cause his kicking skills are crap , this one looks too slow , that one looks average etc . Then as soon as they become a Swan its wrong to criticise them and write them off .

Well yeah, it is. At least until they've had a really good chance to prove themselves. That's the difference between a supporter and an impartial observer. Not persecuted , just annoying and a bit hypocritical . I like Horse's assessment of Stephens in today's article. He's had an excellent preseason by the sounds of it. We know he's put on some size, but I like the observation that he seems to be full of confidence. I hope he rips it up this year.Comment

(Wednesday was the only session I had been to for a while. So not sure how he has been training the last few weeks.)
From memory he did the whole session. Was in defence for the match sim. And trained with the seniors when the VFL players did their own thing. He might have been wearing 10 on his jumper.Comment

Thanks. My best guess is that they’ve guaranteed him a spot unless something untoward (long-term injury) happens before the deadline.(Wednesday was the only session I had been to for a while. So not sure how he has been training the last few weeks.)

Members First: Pyke's pre-season assessment
how good has been the inclusion of someone as experienced as Don Pyke to our club
watching the training this pre season and our adjustment in attack thru 2021....... we are playing a style of footy that our players appear to love.
Not only do they look like they are loving the adjustments to our playing style but they also look like they are really playing for each other.
Our mix between contested and uncontested footy has been so amazing to watch in 2021. Such a transformation to requiring players that are better by foot under pressure. We really seem to have a high amount of players that can play this style of shorter sharper kicks to leads. It does remind of when the Hawks were at their best and a little like Adelaides style in years gone past."be tough, only when it gets tough"

Pleased to hear Stephens has come back with confidence and muscle. I’ve said before I think based on the patches we saw in season one he could be anything. Big loss of confidence and form last year, so let’s hope he bounces back hard. A guy with his kicking, running capacity and speed can add even more juice to our midfield. I’m happy to remain seriously optimistic on him.'Delicious' is a fun word to sayComment

He will play 18+ games this yr . Forget last year , 1st to 4th yrs can have an off year . U just have to look at what hes got , everything you said , left foot kick , elite running, quick off the mark .. everything our team is moving towards , thats why we drafted him and he will thrive in the team we 've gotPleased to hear Stephens has come back with confidence and muscle.
