Sometimes the negating role is overlooked.
He was a 3rd round pick and he's played 163 games and kicked 165 goals, not too shabby. I agree with TB.
But even if he hadn't had such a bad run with injuries, could he have ever thrived in a forward line that began revolving around Buddy in 2013 and is still doing so now? I'm not 'avin' a go at Buddy (so please take the bitumen off the stove and leave the chicken alone). I was just wondering what sort of young key forward wouldn't have had their development affected by such a big shadow.Last edited by Ruck'n'Roll; 8 April 2022, 06:32 PM.Comment

Wicks second half was very good. 7 Contested possessions, Daniel had about 5 touches for the half, most were kick outs. Looking at the highlights, the first 4/5 swans goals all involved Wicks, a smart Shepherd for hayward to goal, clean penetrating passes, contested ball wins resulting directly in goals, and his own goal. His 50 was a mistake, however much like his efforts in the dying stages of the final against GWS he does try to win the game, perhaps he gets a bit carried away!My opinion is objective truth in its purest formComment

Wicks a late out due to health protocols. More or less a like for like replacement, with Ronke coming in.Comment

Thanks for the update. Lewis Taylor was also an option being named as an emergency. My preference would've been Angus Sheldrick but ok with Ronke who deserved another crack after coming on as sub last week.Comment

Personally, I'm not a great Ronke fan, but he has played well in the VFL this season, so hopefully he can keep that up.Comment

I reckon Sheldrick must be unavailable this week, since he wasn't named in the VFL side.Comment

Maybe they mean that the main Swans' opponent will be the weather.Comment

I imagine the H&S protocols allow some flexibility to clubs for selecting replacements outside the emergency list. But when you have Bell and Taylor earmarked as the medisub and matchday emergency, both of whom could play a similar role to Wicks (Bell, at least; more questionable for Taylor) it does seem weird. I suspect their reasoning is that they wanted to give Ronke a full match, rather than the two part matches he had last week. Now he gets to have that, but in the AFL side rather than the VFL side.
I reckon Sheldrick must be unavailable this week, since he wasn't named in the VFL side.
Hopefully he snags a few, but I'll be looking for his tackle pressure.Comment

I think giving Ronke a 'full game' explains his not being medisub option to start with, but I think his elevation to the firsts reflects that Ronke is Wicks' understudy and the next best option for that role.
