There could be some trickery going on, BUT:

Reid is shown lining up in the forward line, as though he is a replacement for Logan. That leaves only Sinclair and Gould as tall options to replace Paddy. Since Sinclair is not a defender, that would make Gould the most logical inclusion. There wouldn't be an official announcement until the final teams are in tomorrow.

As for trickery, they could have Reid listed as a forward when in fact we intend to play him in defence and have Sinclair play Forward/Ruck. Watch this space.

The negative is obviously the the threat of contested marks taken by Daniher, McStay, Fort, and McInerney. The positive is that we should be able to rebound if we can halve the contest. I do think that Reid will play more defence than previously if Gould doesn't come in. I'm jot convinced he can do it as an accountable defender but he has trained there in preseason and so there is no reason to believe that we won't give it a shot.

Ronke is shown in the on field team, so it seems that Papley will replace Bell.

I can't see us going into the game without either Reid or Gould in defence. We simply wouldn't have the tall coverage. It will be difficult enough even with both of them in the side. Brisbane's forward line is very strong, both in the air and at ground level. I can see Reid playing forward and helping out in the ruck as a preferred ruck option to McLean. He may also be needed to help out in defence in some situations, as he has done in the past.

The MC would probably be looking at a Gould-McStay matchup. It won't be easy for Gould, but it's about as good as he can expect at AFL level. I would let it rip and go with the Ghoul.

Extremely surprised that Melican is not an in.Gould won't be able to handle their talls whereas Melican would have a better chance.

Also can't understand why Sinclair is listed when he missed the last reserves game and would serve the role already being played by McLean.

Papley and Reid would be certainties I think but Reid will need to spend a lot of time down back.

Last year in R1 vs Lions, we had the following 7 listed as our defence team
                B: D.Rampe, H.McLean, H.Cunningham
                HB: J.Lloyd, T.McCartin, J.Dawson plus Hewett from the I/C
Against the following 6 Forwards from Lions

                HF: Z.Bailey, J.Daniher, L.McCarthy
                F: T.Fullarton, E.Hipwood, C.Cameron

This Round , those underlined will not play. We have JMac listed in the back and they have McStay and Rayner listed as replacement in their forward line.

And we won at their Home Ground!

Dawson isn't that tall. So may be we don't need Melican or even Gould to come in after all. Still think that if Gould is debuting, it should be announced earlier so that his family, friends and fans who live in SA can arrange to come here.

I don’t think McLean played defence I think George started and Braeden was on the bench. But yes it was a great win I was there and it was very exciting with the three debuts all performing well. I posted the highlights elsewhere it’s good viewing ????

I remember last year people were convinced that our undersized backline would get slaughtered by the Lions talls.

I can’t see them playing Sinkers so surely we’ll play the Ghoul

No. Just discussing who might give Ladhams a chop out in the ruck.

As for me. I'm ready for anything, but I would be surprised is Papley if is in and Bell keeps his spot.

I think the last four named will be the four outs namely Callum James B Dylan and Will G.
I would like to think that Will may get a game soon but maybe not against one of the tallest forward lines going around , not that we have plenty of tall options but I think we covered them alright last year with a similar sized backline. We seemed a bit more agile and unless the Lions tall’s get some good delivery and clunk some overhead marks we go alright at ground level.
Will may be thrown in against a team with a big bodied forward line where body to body contact is preferable.
Sam will drop back to defence and pinch hit in the ruck when needed.
Isaac often seems to be spending time in defence towards the end of quarters to give a hand as well which is what Sam often does so that could free Isaac up for midfield minutes which is where I think we need to at least break even to have a chance of winning.
I could see JPK being included but not sure who he would replace so he may continue in his role as medisub for another week.
Several footy heads on football panels have suggested the role is sometimes being used as way to implement a tactical substitution ( shock horror ) and he sure ripped it up last week in the 30 minutes or so he was on the ground. I like the idea of him slowly working his way into the team so he is not carrying injuries and is cherry ripe for the finals.
I think he is still a very important player for us this year.

have defended Bell but his not good enough . sad to say , very popular at the club and was vouched for by Micky O . Paps on 1 leg would be better

If JPK remains the sub, then one of the four you named will have to be in the 22.

It's looking to come down to JPK, Sinclair or Gould for the 22.
