Pretty much the same with us. Went to the Geelong game; found the white noise and incessant bombardment with it unbearable, and haven’t been to a game since. We have high level memberships, and have been members since we finished uni, also in the mid-90s. Unlikely to attend another match while this aural torture continues.

It’s also played through a pretty dismal sound system, so is distorted as well. Just crap all round.

I still go to the game but this year I have to put on a headphone listening to the radio commentators. It makes the experience acceptable again.

I think the level of noise depends where you sit. Speakers appear to be high in the stands so if you sit at ground level it’s a bit more bearable.

My opinion , wont be popular im sure, but i thought going to the game was about supporting the team ? Not about chit chat with friends ? Every player who pulls on the jumper deserves our respect and our support and for the FANS to be behind them . But a bit of music scares people off ? Cmon

My experience is that the noise is louder on the Churchill/Brewongle side of the ground than the O'Reilly. I've never sat (or not recently) in the Trumper or MA Noble ends so don't know what it's like there.

However, I swear it's gotten louder in the O'Reilly this season. Maybe they've installed new speakers.

About the only time it's possible, due to noise levels, to "chit chat" with friends is during play. At the breaks - the times when you should be able to "chit chat" with friends without compromising your support for the team - the noise makes it impossible.

I haven't been able to get up to the SCG this year, but I'm sad to see people are being turned off attending by the noise pollution

Has anyone written to the club about it this year?

For health reasons I haven’t attended any matches since before the pandemic [emoji22] but have maintained my reserved seat membership. I received an emailed AFL survey questionnaire a couple of weeks ago re attendance at matches. Did others on here receive it? My guess is that it was targeted at members who haven’t been attending and that non-attendance is of some concern AFL- wide.

Anyway, for the question on reason for non-attendance, I ticked the Covid box AND wrote in the ‘other reasons’ box a scathing note about the music. My seat is in the Brewongle and the sound up there is excruciating.

Another grenade TB? Bucking the obvious 'general consensus'? You suspect your opinion 'won't be popular'......but isn't that your point of posting it?

Yes, footy's a game where players need support but it's primarily a social event where one catches up with friends and family to watch the game but also to talk about it and related stuff, especially during the breaks when there is no footy and the players don't need fans support.....so if fans can't do this due to incessant loud noise (hardly just a 'bit of music').....it is a problem. It's a sporting event, not a rock concert.

For the club to say 'we make no apologies' is a slap in the face to established fans....fans who are obviously not happy about it, to the point of reconsidering their memberships. Now that could be a real problem for the club. They should take notice.

Me too, as I live in Melbourne. I find it incredible that this has not been addressed by the club! Surely they must know that this level of noise is off putting? It’s crazy that something so easily fixable can annoy fans and worse- keep them away! Someone please contact Tom Harley.

No its not a social event . You are at the FOOTY to watch the FOOTY and support the TEAM . If it was just to socialise you would be watching it at the pub or at a friends house . If you are at the SCG its to be there to support the team . Its annoying i know , it gets on my nerves especially when they play that noisy dance rubbish . But i would need a lot bigger reason than that to keep me away from being there to support the team . all our loyal servants over the clubs history did not put blood sweat and tears into doing this club proud only for fans to years later say a bit of noise kept them from cheering them on .

It is what it is so you can choose between going to games and supporting our great team or staying home because of some music ,
