Not sure why you would be happy literally gave him away for nothing.
All hindsight....we all know his current stats. I'm not surprised he's going so well at Carlton.....by getting much more midfield time.

I didn't want him to go...the way he stood up in the qualifying final last year to try to get us over the line was phenomenal but as Ludwig said, it was understandable considering our cap space situation and the lure of getting more time into the future of the club, the Cygnets.

Unfortunately, the Hewitt move, which was set in concrete before we knew that Adelaide kid was going to backstab us and the loss of the afore mentioned turncoat has probably set our Premiership schedule back a year.....but I doubt the Hewitt move alone will haunt us 'for years'.

Maybe only if you're haunted by former players doing well at other clubs.

He wouldn't have those numbers at the Swans. Carlton have a different setup. I've always liked Hewett and backed him when others wanted him dropped from the team. I had no doubts that he would be a good player at another club, but several factors, including TPP and team balance, dictated that moving Hewett on last year was the best option. I know it doesn't look like such a good move when he's putting up those kind of numbers. Just because it's been a great acquisition for Carlton, doesn't make a bad move for the Swans.

The bad move for the Swans I feel is drafting Stephens at 5 instead of Caleb Serong or Tom Green (at least make GWS pay extra for him, and who knows what might have happened?). We would not be so worried about losing Hewitt if we had Serong or Green in our midfield, and instead we would be trying to find a way to keep Rowbottom in the team.

Thats fair mate but its exactly a bad move for the reason we are suffering in that area greatly along with JPK having played on for a year to long.
Its 100% our fault we couldn't utilise him to the fullest or have TPP space to give him a suitable deal meanwhile we still have list cloggers on the list and still paying Naismith, Bell, Clarke, Wicks to run around.

If only it was that simple. They are always a bet.

I think one reason we may have held back from Serong is that he is more like Gulden and Campbell (who we expected to be getting) than Stephens was.

That's what I thought, with Gulden and Campbell coming into the team Serong would have too similar and then we went and selected Sheldrick!!

Good point! I hadn't really reflected on that.

I guess it's another couple of years down the track and time to start planning to replace JPK and, eventually, Parker.
