…I'm also not very satisfied with Longmire's repeated remarks about momentum shifts. Yes. There are momentum shifts, but that doesn't account for being totally trampled on when it shifts against us. There has to be some resistance during these periods… There's something wrong with the system. We never used to be an easy team to get a run of goals on, until this year…
Another concern (but perhaps connected) is that 4 of 6 losses this year have been against teams in the bottom half of the ladder. I think it's fear of losing that gets us in these games, and it's a worrying mindset. Basically, we choke. & as much I love Horse, it's gotta be addressed from the top down.Comment

Way too much over reaction when we have a loss like this. Some of the comments are IMO just nutso stuff. This rebuild has failed, trade out Papley, Essendon won because of Parker's taunts, Essendon outplayed us, midfield is crap, sack Longmire, Clarko is the saviour etc, etc.
Remember the old adage before posting and you won't suffer the massive highs (post Geelong, Melbourne, Richmond, rogering of Saints) and the massive lows (post GC, Port and Essendon) - Things are never as good as you think they are and never as bad as you think they are. Think of this before posting extreme thoughts.
Champion data analyse every game and work out what the result should have been from the scoring opportunities presented. This is the kind of stuff coaches use when they look at games.
Friday night, Carlton should have beaten St.Kilda by 20 points, it was failure to convert their own chances and Saints taking all theirs that allowed Saints to win.
In our game, we should have won by 23 points, that is, we generated sufficient attacks more than Essendon, even with their second quarter, to have a four goal win. That gives some balance to whether we were outplayed for the game.
Lapses are costing us, yesterday was second quarter, Port we only lost one quarter but are failing to capitalise when we have more overall momentum for the game than the opposition.
I'm as gutted as anyone about yesterday and I have only seen bits of the game but will subject myself to the full game to see for myself what happened.
So please, can we hold off on extreme views after a loss. If we beat Dogs and umpires next week a lot of those doomsayers will be talking up our finals hopes.Comment

If we can get great trade value for Papley I would trade him in a second. ROnke is a like for like replacement that will do the job. A strong bodied midfielder who is willing to lead when the going gets tough would be ideal.
Would probably also do wonders for our Salary Cap.Comment

You’ve got a point, Giant. And the right to express it. No one wants to hear people going on about a particular player they’re dirty on for too long, but when someone who’s getting paid 10x the average salary to do a particular job (& we’re, in some small part, stakeholders) & they’re not performing, we’re allowed to have a whine.Comment

Our lapses in concentration is a major concern. I would expect our senior players, as a group, to step up and show our youngsters by example. Slowing the game down may be one way. We have enough players with more than 100 games to be able to do this, and then the young ones will follow suit. It’s called leadership.Comment

Barely hanging on to 8th if Richmond win today have Bulldogs and Freo in the next 2 weeks.
Apart from Warner and Blakey who else has shown improvement from 2021? really underwhelming season so far will be disastrous to not make finals from the position we were in.Comment

Yep, that's the way it goes. The team has a lousy loss and you're allowed to go off at them, and if they play well and have a
great win then you're allowed to tout them as one of the new flag favourites. It's two way street. Papley was pretty useless
yesterday and should be able to kick further than me, as I'm more than twice his age. Anyway, he'll come back as he is a good
play, and that is what good player do.
On a personal note, the team has now lost the last five times we've gone to the MCG to see them. I think it's better if I stay away
from the ground when the Swans are on it from now on.Comment

I picked a good game bit to watch because I had to work. Really didn’t expect that result and I’m disappointed about yet another missed opportunity.
Our record in milestone games suggests we had little chance of winning.
That and the fact we haven’t beaten Essendon at the MCG since 1923.
We are horribly inconsistent as a club and some of our players (Florent in particular) exemplify that? however some of that is a product of the evenness of the competition. There aren’t many easy wins to be had, it’s much harder to be consistent week in week out.
Has any side NOT had a form slump or lost to a lowly club this year?
Concur regarding Florent, though. Played a blinder last week, had a miserable 8 uninspiring touches yesterday. Mills, usually one of our most reliable, also had a poor game. Hard to work it out really, though 2:14 conversion certainly explains the loss overall.

I was doing a job on AIRTASKER for a bloke who plays rugby Sevens for Australia and I was wearing a Swannies cap.
He goes “Have you heard of Nick Davis, he’s our kicking coach .”
Yeah, what’s he doing with you guys, we need him more than you do !Comment
