To be fair, the SCG has an over representation of brown shoe/collared shirt types with brand new Swans scarves who use the footy as an entree before a night out in Paddington or Surry Hills. Unfortunately the atmosphere is pretty tame and really only lifts in the last quarter if the scores are close. Whether this is a result of the brown shoe brigade or the booming music after goals is hard to say.
Being down in Melbourne for the game last Friday was awesome. THAT was an atmosphere and one that I would love the SCG to have consistently.
Love them or hate them, the Pies crowd create a brilliant atmosphere for their team, one we can only dream of.

I reckon Mills will get the job, at least to start with. He's taller and has more wiry strength. And will require De Goey to pay him some respect. Then it will be over to Rowbottom, Parker and Warner to win the clearances themselves, because when Freo did win the ball out of the middle, the Pies' defence didn't look so robust. And hopefully we learn from last week against Melbourne and bring the ball in messily and get it to ground so that our smaller guys can go to work.Comment

My Facebook just reminded me that seven years ago today, I was at our Qualifying Final vs Freo, which we lost 7.18 (60) to 10.9 (69). Franklin, Parker and Jack were out, Reid got injured, but Towers stepped up and was decent at half forward. But inaccuracy cost us.
Only six players who took to the field that day are still in our team: Reid, Cunningham, Rampe, Lloyd, Heeney and Kennedy. Plus Franklin and Parker who would have played if not for injury. Kennedy and Cunningham now in our current 22 either, so we have changed over 2/3rds of our starting 22 in just seven years! That is amazing.Comment

A big call to bring in someone that hasn't played seniors since our loss to the Bombers, let alone the pressure cooker of a preliminary final.
Additionally, Braedon is yet to play a finals game. Hopefully this is something that changes next season when we are defending premiers
I'm happy for the side to remain unchanged, there is a lot to be said for stability at the end of the season."Fortunately, this is the internet, so knowing nothing is no obstacle to having an opinion!." Beerman 18-07-2017Comment

On the AFL website today, Matthew Lloyd suggested that we should consider looking to go smaller by dropping McDonald and bringing in Campbell. His argument was that McDonald and Buddy had both done little in the previous two games, and the ball was likely to be on the ground a lot in the preliminary and we needed to counter the Pies' speed. A big call by him but I would personally stick with McDonald who does a lot of unsung running and helping out work, as well as being a marking lead up threat.
'Player of finals' can lead Pies to flag, Dees who went backwardsComment

I don't think it makes much difference if we use McDonald or Amartey for that third tall forward role. Amartey is maybe going to be more likely to pull in some big marks in the forward line, or at least make a contest, while McDonald is more likely to work up the ground and provide a target or outlet across half-back or the wing. But I don't think abandoning both will help us.Comment

Is everyone aware of the fact that since footy has been played in the 1860's, and up until last week, four British monarchs have died, 1901, 1910, 1936, 1952 and that Collingwood made the GF in all of those years, four out of four.
Elizabeth has died, will Collingwood again play in a GF in the year of a monarch's death?Comment

I'm not overly concerned about playing Collingwood; I think the Swans best can beat them and anyone else.
They did have several key danger players in the Freo game - and I think, not necessarily just those that everyone talks about. I have faith that the coaches know who they are and who to match up on them.
Just about at the stage of getting that slightly sick feeling now, where a win would be so good, and a loss so disappointing. And if we get to the GF - that feeling again, only worse! I should be used to it by now, having sat through 3 GF losses.Comment
