General footy chat Brownlow night 2022

I don't have much to say - am not watching and am not that interested in the outcome. [I think the AFLCA Coaches MVP is the more significant award.] But I did look through the pics of the glammed up people on the runway and I thought both Isaac Heeney and Chad Warner's partner, Alice Hughes, looked particularly resplendent in their couture - not just out of the Swans people but out of all the people featured.

Interesting that in our last game of the season against St.Kilda - which we won - all of the votes went to Saints players.

Great to see Hanners get the 3 in his final game, though!

Reckon someone will pick up Hanners based on that game, says he'd be open to offers.

The difference between the coaches and umps can be fascinating. Hanners was terrific that night, but didn’t get a coaches vote. And I thought either Heeney or Rowie would have at least got a vote in the winning side.

Buddy is in our top 5 players. I think a big grand final should see him get the contract he wants.

Great result for Callum Mills - 6th in a Brownlow, in what is a very strong and well balanced team, is a huge effort. Well done.

Not if it affects our ability to extend a young gun. He will still have to deal. If we win, he possibly retires.

If he has a really great 'Buddy at his best' game and we win, he may go on and seek further glory with us......but not at the expense of the future integrity of our list.

Buddy may have received the fourth most Brownlow votes in our team but he is no longer one of our top 5 players (no more than Peter Ladhams is our 7th best player). [We could say our top 4 players currently are: Mills, Parker, Heeney & Papley with a large number of players after that e.g. Lloyd, RB, Warner, Buddy, Blakey, Gulden, Hickey, McCartins, Rampe.]

I think whatever we have offered Buddy to stay is enough and we should not further increase our offer. If he retires or leaves, so be it. We will need to move on. If he plays on with us, and especially if he continues to contribute meaningfully (as I'm sure he will if he's fit enough), then so much the better. He still has more to offer than Amartey, McLean or McDonald and should be paid more than any of them.

Not withstanding the result of the grand final I hope Buddy stays for 1 more year.

I didn't start watching the telecast until 10pm, so this morning I checked the paper to see who received votes in the earlier rounds. According to the Herald Sun, Grundy came out of retirement in Round 4 against North and he received 1 vote!

I think they did a copy and paste from the game above where Collingwood's Grundy received 1 vote and then forgot to change the name.

The Front Bar just showed an amusing snippet from Brownlow night. In response to Gil mispronouncing Christian Petracca's name as Pe-track-a, Christian could be clearly lip-read as saying "Pe-trar-ca FFS!"

Which is strange because Pe-track-a is actually closer to the right pronunciation (in Italian) than Pe-trar-ca is. Petracca's name is not Petrarca (the name second most famous Italian literary figure, after Dante Alighieri).

There are other Italian names that are butchered much worse e.g. Fantasia (Fan-tay-zhia vs Fan-ta-see-ah), Deledio (Dell-EE-dee-oh vs Del-eh-dio) and Ricciuto (Rish-oo-toe v Ri-chu-to).
