Yes Teddy played on Jonno Brown, who kicked 8 on him and he was promptly dropped. He played only sporadically for Bombers before being traded. A bit like Francis really, an early draft pick who never reached his best at his first club for one reason or another.

I think Francis has a good show of becoming a top player if he knuckles down. The fitness regime will help him heaps

And referring to that minority at this point as "no one" - that's just doubling down.
I was never sure about Hickey. I had a lý seen him on a handful of occasions and thought him a pretty good player. But nothing like he has proven to be for us. He was always versatile but I think coaches never coached him well. Not only that he had injury concerns his whole career and they could never get him right. Our fitness people have done that.

Last year all our ND draft picks were in the low 180s in height. I think this year we shouldn't repeat that, because there will be a price to pay some time down the line when we've all forgotten about the 2022 draft. I am simply saying that more height should be added to our list, if the opportunity should arise. And it seems as though it will arise, based on most of the draft power rankings. So it's a good time to strike.
Great analysis Ludwig . One of the reasons I’m a big fan on Allen is he has height and plays in and around the ball . With Mills being our current tallest midfielder now Kennedy has retired it’s an area we need to address . Someone like Allen given his build would start on a wing but eventually could be a tall inside mid that would complement our current midfield make up . Very handy player to have that plays wing who can be another marking target on the way out . Who then can also play inside as needed .

As for Cowan who I’m also a big fan of, he is a great intercept mark is high 180’s in height and has the versatility to go through the midfield as well .

Keeler I can see the attraction also has height has great potential upside and once again is versatile .

Height with versatility is our screaming need in my opinion and there seems to be a few more than promising selections around our first two picks .

Keeler not nominated by as an NGA by Adelaide Cows so they must be certain he's going well before pick 41, the point at which they could bid match for almost a junk pick. He's in the open pool now and an interesting prospect, does a team strike late in the first round or does he end up a big slider?

The Essendon review has highlighted fitness and lack of standards at the club, Francis now comes to a much more professional club and knows this is his last chance at an AFL career. He's got a lot of ability, his chance now to knuckle down and make an AFL career. Hopefully this turns out to be another great redemption trade.

I like Allen and Cowan who should be available at our picks. 16 sleeps to go

Be interesting to see where Francis places in the preseason time trial.

I agree that height is beneficial in the key position areas and we need some reinforcements there. I disagree that we need height in the midfield. Elevating a young kid above another purely because they are 188cm compared to 180cm is ridiculous. Give me the better kick or ball winner regardless of that difference in height. JPK, Cripps, Dangerfield have not been great players because they have been tall. It is their other attributes that have made them special.

In the case of Cripps & JPK their height has helped. They virtually become a third tall when they go forward. Dangerfield is a different story because it is his pace that has always been the difference and his ability to burst. He is also very strong so when he goes forward, just like Dusty, he is dangerous.

But height and strength in the mids is something we need to address. We had JPK & Mills, now just Mills. While a smaller player can be strong thry have not got the sheer power of a Cripps, JPK, Bont etc. We need that extra mid with that bit extra. I do agree they have to have good disposal efficiency.

Matt Roberts might end up addressing those needs but it would help to have that extra tall mid.

I think Keeler would be a very strong pick for us as he can play ruck, forward or as an extra mid.

I thing I can agree on is Keeler. I like the look of him.

JPK had one season, quite early in his Swans tenure, where he kicked an impressive number of goals (over 20, approaching 30 IIRC) but I think more were from ground level than marking (and certainly few from contested marking where his height was a factor). Over the duration of their careers, the shorter Luke Parker has proved to be far more dangerous in the forward line.

Cripps height does help him mark in the forward line but he is extraordinarily tall for someone who mostly plays midfield. He's taller than many specialist key forwards. He's the reigning Brownlow medalist, and probably half Carlton's wins last season were largely down to him. If anyone was in this draft with his combination of height, size, ball winning ability, adequate speed and endurance (just), they would be in high demand indeed. Such players aren't especially common.

Essendon have not offered Josh Eyre, a pick 39 in 2020, a contract for 2023. He is a 198cm 98kl indigenous talent who Richmond wanted and bid for but as he was an Essendon NGA player, they used their 2 picks to match Richmond and select him. Essendon may use pre season supplemental selection for him as he is still young and developing as a key forward and back. Reason for me mentioning Eyre is that he is a great size and has talent but has been squeezed out by Essendon's mismanagement. Wonder whether Swans could pick Eyre up in rookie draft as a young key position player which is what we need. Even if he played in our VFL side for a year or two, could be a good pick. Not sure how we could pinch him for nothing from Essendon????

Sorry Rik but I know nothing of this kid. Given he has been given no love from Essendon, I'd be inclined to pass. I think I've made it obvious previously that I think selecting kids purely on size is fraught with

Interesting video of Mattaes Phillipou up on AFL website. Has been a polarising figure with recruiters not being able to get a read on him . Is though of as a flight risk and a bit I am but I found his video quite interesting and he speaks well and is confident in his ability.
Thing that came across to me was that he seems very driven
He is expected to slide but won’t make our first pick I don’t think. Going to be very intriguing to see what team selects him as his highlights package is pretty impressive .

On another note Rumours now that Eagles might take Allen early due to Sydney and GWS’s interest in him .We may have a juicy slider now available with our first pick

I’ve seen Philipou taken as early as pick 5 by the Bombers in some mock drafts.

Don’t think Allen will get to us …. Most seem to have us taking Cowan

Phillipou will go early, only just makes this years draft so is nearly a full year in age behind many other draftees.

The more bolters push up the board, the more long term top 15 players slip to our pick region. I like Allen, hope he's still there for us
