Are you upping your happiness rating to ecstatic if we snag two of those three and Cowan is one of them gloveski?

Think we need to also do the right thing by the Cows, after they were so generous in their Dawson dealings last year, and make sure we bid on their U18 AA F/S Max Michelanny at our second pick, just to make sure they burn up all of their three later picks. He fits our criteria of late birthday selection 27th december

I'd go with Allen or Cowan over Hustwaite. I think speed is important. Can't start an attack with one player yelling out " wait for me ".

I don't see Allen as more of a risk than anyone in who will go late first or early 2nd round.

Twomey's latest rankings (as opposed to predicted draft order) are up

Allen and Cowan get my votes as well Ludwig and both could/should be available at our picks.

I notice GWS have Rowston, an academy mid, featuring in the 20's. Looks another big draft haul for them to back fill the latest almost annual exodus

should we worry about go home factor for Cowan (tas bid). another name sufacing within our range adam d'alio mid from sa 186cm contested ball beast (read draft central on him). I would go for allen (and either dálio or cowan (who is 188cm) plus a key def if one is available

Tasmania is at least four years away, if Cowan gets selected and entrenched he may elect to stay or else we get a juicy compo pick. Reckon we don't pass because of the Tas connection.

D'Alio wasn't getting any attention from the two SA club BF boards knowledgable draft watchers and he's not in the top 30 lists getting published around the traps so he'd be a massive reach at our picks.

Also of note on Cowan is he lives in Devonport , 3 hour drive to Hobart were the potential new Tassie team will be based . Be quicker to hop on a plane from Sydney to Devonport than drive to see family [emoji6]

Not sure about this. Qantas flights are over 4 hours via Melbourne and cheapest over $1000.

Fair call didn’t realise there wasn’t a direct flight from Devonport currently . Would have to take the 40 minute drive to Launceston airport then.

Interestingly the Tasmanian U/16 side is very strong so should see a few more Tasmanians drafted in coming years

I think we can afford to use our 2nd first rounder on a high risk, high reward type player. My logic is that we have a strong team and we don't need someone who is going to be ready to come in and play from day 1. Rather invest in someone who might take a couple of years to develop (allowing time for spots in the team to open up) but who has a high ceiling if they pull it all together. Two options might be either (a) Brayden George: he is recovering from an ACL and won't be able to play all or most of next season but is rated as a top 5 talent; or (b) Isaac Keeler - tall and talented but raw and will likely take a while to develop and may not get there at all (kind of the opposite of Matty Roberts).

I can see why we'd like to trade up the draft board - our pick comes just after the top tier talent falls away. Still two shots will hopefully produce at least one good player - we just have to nail our selections, like when we got Olly & Will.
All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated, and well supported in logic and argument than others. -Douglas Adams, author (11 Mar 1952-2001)

I think in most drafts there 'appears' to be a drop off in talent at some point but as we know some of the very best players in the game were selected after the drop off point in their draft year. Maybe it's just the likely hood you could have a bust increases after the initial batch, but even then there's plenty of top 5/10 busts.

I think there's a lot of players who should/could be very good at our picks, just gotta have faith in our recruiters who are among the best in the game.

As mentioned Brayden George would be a slight reach with our second given his late season ACL but he is a top 10 talent, hails from Tatura in northern Vic I think? and we can afford to wait for him to recover. He can also be put onto the LTI list for 2023 so that opens up a senior list spot to use, and we are tight for spots.

This from his draft profile story on the AFL website recently 'clubs are still well aware of George's traits, which include a long, penetrating kick, strength in marking contests and smarts around goal' Think we could do with those traits

2 high risk high reward players are SA talls Harry Lemmey and Tom Scully. Both started the season as predicted top 5 picks but have now dropped off the radar, not sure why but as Bottom agers they were guns.
I FEEL THE NEED FOR SPEED!!!!!

Which one of these will we take with our first pick?
