Agreed with your analysis Ugg. I think what we missed is Joey’s contribution from past years- unfortunately this year he struggled in some games. So a bigger bodied mid would be a helpful addition to our mids options. Don’t know if we have anyone in the twos: maybe Sheather if fit? Could Gould be a possibility? Or do we look to trade someone in?On that logic it’s imperative we start recruiting forwards with only one in the top ten.
On paper and individually our midfield looks strong. But while the GF was anomalous in the severity of the beating we received, it wasn’t too surprising given the season as a whole the stats showed we were middling as a midfield group. In the first half of the year we suffered some mighty consecutive runs of scores against us, which led to us losing a number of games against non finalists
For whatever reason our midfield as a whole was somehow lesser than the some of its parts. We may need to look at the coaching and the setup (tactics not personnel ) for next yearComment

I don't think the composition of the top ten is inconsistent with the observation that sometimes our midfield gets beaten, for the same reason that the Coaches' award, Brownlow, AFLPA award etc are dominated by midfields. On that logic it’s imperative we start recruiting forwards with only one in the top ten.

The scoring is all relative to other players in the team. When our midfield gets beaten, the forwards are starved of opportunities and thus look poor (and are unlikely to score many votes) and the defence is likely to get swamped by fast entries and look poor because we concede goals (and thus not score votes). It is possible that a defensive unit could win plaudits from the coaches because they've held up despite being swamped by entries, and our forward line might be ultra effective and score with relatively few opportunities, but over the course of the season, these are likely to be uncommon events.Comment

I don't mind the way the club does the B & F voting, as you end up with a situation where the winner only gets 50% more votes
than the player who comes 10th. It's a more accurate reflection of their relative contributions over the whole season than say
the Brownlow.Comment

Watched John Longmire's speech at B&F.Outstanding. Felt a lot better after hearing it. Rock solid character.Comment

We're very lucky to have him. The second half of this is just outstanding.
2022 Club Champion - John Longmire address'Delicious' is a fun word to sayComment

That's my feeling too. The players seem fine, and we do quite well at around the ground stoppages. There's something not right about how we handle the centre bounces, so looking at the tactics and coaching seems the way to improving.Comment

My brother confirmed that Geelong didn't have a live stream either. Their supporters went ballistic on social media!
Anyway congratulations to Mills, Chad and Rowbottom.
I just watched Longmire's speech and he didn't disappoint. He loves giving it to Kennedy!Comment

The thing that disappointed me was that both Longmire and Kennedy spoked about how they were going to miss each other's company next year. I had hoped they would have found a role by now for Kennedy within the club, ideally a development or coaching role. The soft cap is due to increase materially for next year, giving clubs a chance to bring in more resources.
But maybe Josh isn't interested in continuing his career in the footy industry.Comment
