You can understand the coaches' decision when the game is on the line and you have Parker, Gulden, Rowbottom and Warner wanting to stay in the game. They all had game time in the 80s. It's hard to pull one of those guys off to put Sheldrick on. Hopefully Sheldrick gets selected again this week and sees more playing time, because we're running away with the game and he vets can get a rest.

I recall commenting on a VFL game and couldn't tell which side was Sheldrick's preferred, because he seemed equally at ease on both. I've always liked The Wombat, despite my disappointed that we passed on JVR in the draft.

Puts paid to those on here who were retiring him :-) He is still an important player for his leadership and on field organising

I’m a little surprised he got 2 years. They must think he’s got it in him?

Anyone watched Gettable on the AFL website? Says Twomey names a quartet of clubs that are likely to be very active this trade period and wondered who the four clubs are? Are we one of them?

These guys do get a bit of inside info

Could also because of Paddy McCartin likely retirement, Tom McCartin concussion risk, Gould not turning out and Francis being below average.

We don’t have a lot of proven reliable (injury wise) options down back. Even if he plays on a third tall in his final year, that still gives us something.

GETTABLE: Club set for 'massive' trade period, Saint to stay, gun Eagle's future
1.50: Four clubs named as Sydney, St Kilda, Port Adelaide and Melbourne. They discussed Sydney first.

After the first few Championship games, theinnersanctum.com.au has a good write up on their current top 20. Cleary has drifted out of their top 20, hopefully drifts a little further so we can get three bids in before having to match, if we intend to.

I know this happens every draft but there seems to be a lot of very highly regarded draftees this year. Allies are particularly strong, McKercher and Sanders absolute ball magnets and those types nearly always transition to AFL level.

With our strong draft hand I'd prefer we take our first three to the draft and not fritter them away on trades.

Me too 707 but it's sounding highly likely we'll use a few of them in trades, which disappoints me unless Himmelberg is involved as he's the only one I really want.

Discussion about the usual tall targets for us: TDK, HH, Barass, McKay (Ben) etc.

A couple of lower profile targets who I think are ooc are Georgiades and Mitch McGovern, who showed s load of promise at ADL before he went to Carlton !!! Thoughts?

I'm with you on Himmelberg. He's the only one that I feel could really help us. With Rampe staying another 2 years, we need 2 reliable key defenders. Right now we only have hope. Hope that Melican stays fit and stays with us, because he is a FA; hope that Tom McCartin never gets another concussion; hope that Arnold turns out to be a winner; hope that Edwards makes the long progression to an AFL defenders (he's been looking better in recent weeks).

I feel we are okay with our KPFs, with only Amartey an injury risk. This is the reason I've suggested we look at McLean as a defender, because we might have a solid contingent of forwards, while our defenders are all questionable.

We can't go overboard either. The items listed as risk factors could fall mostly our way and we just might be okay with only minor changes. I wouldn't want to see us chasing TDK with a big money package. He's mainly a ruckman or forward, and we really need a defender.

RFA Jack Silvagni is someone I just have a hunch about turning into a good KPD, rather than the forward he's been playing at. I don't know what he would be looking for in salary. I do think he's gettable.

We should target one or 2 KPPs in the draft as well.

If things look dire, we could still consider giving Reid another year, if he recovers fully from his injury. He's 2 years younger than Rampe and his body hasn't been beaten up too badly because of all the time off in rehab.

It's a very important trade period for us. Get it right, and we could bounce back big time next year.

I like Jack Silvagni- he always gives his all and is very versatile: even pinch hits in the ruck. Together with HH, that should be our trading unless someone special bobs up.
Thrilled with Ramps- he is still great value down back.
Now I would like to see HHK given a few games as we really need another good forward.
