Fun speculation: A family member spotted Ivan Soldo on a late mid week flight (9pm) from Sydney to Melbourne last week, during Richmond's bye week off. Led to wild speculation whether he may flew up to have talks with us, considering our ruck stocks & if Hickey's body will hold up. GWS appear to be ok with their ruck stocks. Soldo will be 28yo next year but we would have to trade for him, as he is contracted till end of next year. Originally recruited from the Northern Knights (Vic) but did grew up in Canberra.Comment

Ivan Soldo, surely not
Most interesting pick trades this year are
West Coast trading pick 1 for two or three other high picks, but with local KP player Daniel Curtin rated very highly, any pick swap would need to have pick 2 or 3 coming back to ensure WC can draft Curtin. Maybe puts Norf and Hawks in Harley Reid contention?
Gold Coast have top 5 pick KPF Jed Walter to match so will be looking to trade out their first pick 9-12? for a couple of picks that tally more points. We could be an interested party here with our pick 22 & 25-28?Last edited by 707; 29 June 2023, 06:43 PM.Comment

Hawthorn's first 2 provisional picks: 3, 31.
North Melbourne's first 2 provisional picks: 2, 17.
Other clubs which could be involved in this trade. All picks named are provisional based on current ladder:
* GWS Giants: hold picks 5 and 7.
* Gold Coast: 9, plus eight later points-bearing picks. Will want to offload first-round pick (currently 9) for points, and trade out later picks into next year's draft.
* Sydney: provisional pick 6, plus two second-round and two third-round picks. The latter may be of interest to Gold Coast.
* Melbourne: hold two first-round and two second-round picks (8, 15, 27 and 34).
It's really hard concocting a plausible multi-club trade, so I won't try. Players may also be involved.
To give an idea, Sydney's trade could be pick 6 to West Coast, pick 22 and a future second-round pick to Gold Coast, Barrass from West Coast, pick 9 from Gold Coast. (This trade is a little optimistic.) However, this year we are going after more players than that; consider this trade to be an example if we're not being assertive at the trade table. Note in particular the Gold Coast trade, and how Gold Coast get a future pick. They do this a lot, leveraging their assistance package into future years for as long as possible, which is very smart trading by them.
I have a hunch that Sydney initiated informal trade talks with West Coast just after last weekend's game. A few years ago, West Coast helped us to draft Rowbottom with a live pick swap that bent the rules a bit. I wouldn't be surprised if we ended up giving West Coast some useful assistance at the trade table this year."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment

With Paddy McCartin probably retiring along with Bud ……and Hickey maybe not total solution for 2024 u would have to guess we are after at least 2 talls or maybe 3 talls?
Plus maintain a strong draft hand if possible
HH still likely for us
McKay NM also possible
Ruck? Maybe another value ruckman or leave this till 2025?"be tough, only when it gets tough"
