Good game, shame the Suns couldn't hang on. Darcy and to a lesser extent, Jackson, getting on top in the ruck was crucial to the Fremantle comeback.
Round 5: The other games. Gather round and wonder why.

Yes, Meg, and Norwood Oval does have fond memories for me, as it was the first place that I watched live Aussie Rules, when I moved to Adelaide many years ago.Comment

I'm not sure how functional the site is at the moment, so I think I'll just briefly start the thread and leave it at that. I mean, I don't want to type away for an hour or so and then discover that I can't post what I've written or other people can't access it.
I'm assuming that I'm not the only that's currently viewing the forum in a strange and clunky layout?Comment

That Norwood Oval Red Grandstand is so reminiscent of the Red Grandstand at the Lake Oval in its hey day. Is there any connection between the two?
It's beauty enhanced further under lights. My highlight of Gather Round so far (other than our win!). Wouldn't mind seeing us play on the Norwood Oval wearing the Red V next season, should It return to Adelaide. Would look so nostalgic for us old South supporters!Comment

Re grandstands, from brief internet search I found that the Lakeside Stadium was built in 1926 designed by Clegg & Morrow. The Sir Edwin T. Smith Pavilion at Norwood Oval was built in 1929 and designed by Mr. H. F. R. Culley.
So the two grandstands are of the same era. Culley seems to have designed various other Norwood public structures, while Clegg & Morrow seem to have been a prestigious Ballarat architecture practice. Possibly Culley’s design influenced by Clegg & Morrow?
There is a good crowd again at Norwood for GWS v Hawthorn match, and quite likely bigger than if the same match were played at Giants home ground at Olympic Park.
Ps: Looking at internet photos of the two stadiums they ARE very similar in design.Last edited by Meg; 16 April 2023, 05:44 PM.Comment

Excellent (belated) intro to the thread, deja!! Possibly your best yet. I appreciated the worldly critique of Gather Round instead of the incessant "rah! rah! we're mostly getting. That said, from the point of view of the organsiers it seems to have been a success. Also loved the awful reference to the helping hands of Port fans.
I'm watching the Freo-Pies match. Close so far. I am indeed going for the Saints. The amount of dumb decisions and poor skill errors they made in the first quarter was driving me around the twist! In the past few minutes Collingwood has been balancing out the idiotic stuff. Glad I'm not a Saints fan or coach. All opinions are not equal. The Giants are on the precipice of squeaking home against the Hawks. Thank Christ! Definitely want Hawks to get the spoon. All opinions are not equal. I liked this comment so did a bit of research.

Tom Harley is in Adelaide today. I wonder if he might bump into Harry for coffee. Bring a post dated contract Tom. Starting offer: 4 years/3 mil., but willing to go higher.
Jesse Hogan nearly lost that game single handed with his atrocious kicking, but he can take a contested mark.Comment

I'm also still in favour of chasing Jack Lukosius. Some suggestions he might be gettable even though he re-signed at Gold Coast not long ago.All opinions are not equal.
