One of the things that I enjoy about following the Swans is the respect they show to opposition clubs and to their own players, especially those who have given great service. Just as we nursed Barry, O'Loughlin and Crouch in their last year, we should do the same for Buddy this season. Been sensational for us.

Agreed. We won’t make finals do let Buddy decide how he wants to finish. In the meantime get more experience into the players and play the likes of Sheldrick in the firsts.

Totally agree. We’ve been unable to get a fit squad on the park the whole season. Need to let the blokes playing sore recover and get games into Sheldrick and McAndrew. The latter is a good tap ruckman and his ground skills and tackling are very effective.

The first thing we should do is bring in the 2 draftees. If they are going to be part of the future then don't stuff them around in the reserves. And play them in the positions they played before being drafted.

Bit simplistic Nico. Many players don’t make it in the big league in their junior positions. eg Ted, Reg, Smooch, Lloyd, Ramps, Leo, Lizard, Macca etc etc but thrive when given different roles.
Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.

I agree with Nico it makes sense to play players in their natural position - for example Sheldrick finally got a chance to play as an inside mid and was way better than he has been as a small forward. Ditto Chad and a host of others.

I know it’s not as simple as that when you’ve already hit a first choice midfield, but given we aren’t making finals it does make sense to give players like Sheldrick a chance.

And surely it’s time to drop Clarke and given someone else a go?

I wasn't a massive fan of John's comments in the post match presser when asked about Sheldrick's game. Agreed it was good, but said the conditions suited him. That latter caveat implied Sheldrick is less effective in drier conditions and the response was a bit defensive re not selecting him earlier.

That is, John took it personally and put it a little on the player, rather than just flat acknowledged the good game.

Suggested to me the pressure John feels under.

Sounded very frustrated and looked like a man who doesn’t have any answers - they need to come up with something

Horse is under pressure as all coaches are- of course they feel it more when the team is not performing as it should. I thought Sheldrick was ok without being special, which is understandable given his lack of game time. He should defo start in midfield- none of this half forward stuff- for at least a handful of games.

For next week, I would drop Clarke and Wicks as both are VFL level and maybe Wilbur as he was useless against the Saints and that is inexcusable for a player of his ability and experience.

Hayward has been hit or miss all season, with occasional good moments and very long absences. Unless he’s injured as well, absolutely a possibility, he’s been pretty low impact this season. Goal kicking has been ordinary when he’s had chances, too.

Horse’s attitude in this presser was poor. He needs to step up & do better. Obviously disappointed about the goals from frees and dodgy 50m - but we have to deal them every week.

Agree with your comments re Schlderick. At least he showed some promise, adjusting to the pace of the game is the first step, however he needs to work on his defensive game, which takes time for most players who come through the TAC system. He will only improve from here, particularly when we get Mills and Parker back in the midfield to give some on field guidance.

Agree with you on Clarke, however think you are being hard on Haywood. Playing on the Swans forward line with the way the ball is being delivered would be tough for anyone. Hayward is often used as the get out of defence man when things get tight, and his one on one, and marking skills are exceptional at times.

Think you're reading too much into the comments on Sheldrick. Given the mood he was in, I think he was pretty happy with his effort for a 19 yo.

Agree on Hayward. He plays a unique role in our structure and its's not always about possessions. I think next year with Buddy gone and with a more multi pronged attack, he will be the one that benefits most.

I don't think so. I think he was begrudging just like with Mitchell. It was a terrible presser and a worse coaching performance.
