Inconsistency or bias? Does my head in.

4 umpires = different interpretations = inconsistent decisions.

In Melbourne suburban footy it is an automatic yellow card for a sling tackle and a red card for a second. Guess what, it doesn't happen much. Maybe the AFL could adopt this or ban the chicken wing tackle.

On CTE: something that isn't mentioned is that the grounds a very hard these days. Pre 1980 grounds were muddy and even waterlogged. These days the drainage is way better and with the end of Melbourne suburban grounds, the MCG and Marvel are manicured to the enth degree. They say Marvel is like playing on concrete.

Good points there Nico. Ludwig mentioned boxing- I think that’s a different scenario altogether as the whole point is to knock out your opponent. There are people who like/love this “sport” but really it should not exist anymore- same with UFC and the like. Not just because of head injuries but bashing another human being surely shouldn’t be a form of entertainment, but that’s another argument!

Regarding women playing football- I don’t have a problem with it but maybe their tackling needs to be be reassessed; but playing rugby is not for women as far as I’m concerned. I may be in the minority here but physically men and women are built differently and so it’s not necessary for women to participate in every sport. I’ll take my coat now………????

I think the days of men (assuming you are one) telling woman what they can and can't do, are over.

Yes, I am a man barry- if one is permitted to say this in our current climate!
Don’t get me wrong- far be it from me to tell women what to do: I’m not that silly!????

I’m just saying that some sports are more dangerous to their bodies, beautiful as they are. You don’t have to agree- my opinion is based purely on physiology and if they want to subject themselves to possible severe injuries then that is their choice.

There are people who will call you out now (not me and hopefully none here) as a male for saying women’s bodies are beautiful - ie you are objectifying them.

Gender identity and gendered based sports discussion is a minefield these days!
