When was the last time we actually played well? Against west coast? Our ladder position is accurate given the game style coaching.... i dont think anybody is "energised" by a loss.. but frustrated with the same mistakes made week in amd week out by players and coaches... When most teams in the comp execute their favourite style of attack and shape in defence then you are hard to beat.
This season there has been a few games where we have definitely turned on the after burners and looked very good.
The best teams tend be able to to still do this even when missing some key players.
The sad part for me in 2023 is our inability to wrestle back the oppositions momentum. This has looked fairly ordinary this season and did so again last night.
ie in years gone past we switched pace and slowed into tempo footy and higher uncontested footy / higher possession.
This had worked for well for us and for teams like Geelong, Port, Brisbane and prior years the Hawks. Starve the opposition when they are running hot by keeping possession and then turn on the burners again when u create an overlap or a one on none.
Watching last night and this season we don’t appear to use this tactic to arrest opposition momentum??
We didn’t appear to have an answer tactically last night vs the Tigers ?
Is tempo footy as a momentum breaker not even valid under the new rule interpretations? Is tempo footy not really an option given how every team now is playing high pressure defence most of the game and rewarded for it?
Our other tactic was go to plus one in defence and zone off when a team started playing tempo and waited for a crap entry - pounced- rebounded fast (sling shot).
Even this tactic we struggled to implement last night when really required to push ahead with scoreboard pressure.
Is there an obvious opposition momentum breaker that I am missing besides accuracy in front of goal?"be tough, only when it gets tough"

agree on JL too many times this year hes been out coached. mention this a couple of times over the last mth. Selection a puzzle and have been for a while. Hickey has to be helped injuries and virtually no preseason. McLean and Amerty are fwds and not really up to rucking. Should play Big Mac and leave him in. Nann killed us particularly at cnetre bounces, If I remember rightly big mac played aghainst richhmond ealier and held his own. Need sto play and to make francis sub what are great HH move. We should not have picke dhim up at all Dons were happy to get rid of him We also sign too in mid season play one immediatley and then drop him and have not played the other we were crying out for defenders gi v ehim a go,Comment

I’m curious: for those who’ve been at the grounds the last few weeks, as it is very difficult to discern from the TV, what role Horse actually has Fox playing?
I get the argument about the composition of our back six or seven, and Melican was pretty good again last night. And it may be that Fox goes back into the rotation with Lloyd out.
But what is he being asked to do? I like and back Horse, but it ain’t working, whatever it is.'Delicious' is a fun word to sayComment

Totally shattered by that performance, perhaps the closest we could get to full strength and we dished up that.
I hope the club does some serious soul searching because I think this bunch maybe all hype no substance - really hope I am wrongComment

Yeh, look it started to rain and got a bit colder, it got a bit hard for us and their hands probably got a bit too cold. We were bog awful after half time, mind you we made some horrible kicking errors in the first half. It looked like all their first half goals came from turnovers.
19/7 centre clearances told the story. After half time we couldn't buy a centre clearance and what got me Richmond players were streets away from our blokes. Time to sack the clearance coach. Everyone in the world except the Sydney Swans knows that since the 6/6/6 rule that centre clearances are No.1.
And again, Richmond cleared it from our forward line at will. Their rebounds from our forward line were nauseating. Happens every week. Our forwards are either too slow or not committed.Comment

Merdo, you have a point re Mills, but that’s about it. Can’t you accept we were outplayed tonight in the second half? Richmond weren’t a poor side tonight and were more desperate especially in the second half. Sure, there were some bad decisions by the umps but we just didn’t play well in the second half. Maybe we are just not as good as we think we are.
I agree that knowing what to expect weather wise, I would have played Corey instead of Francis, but who knew that Lloyd would need to go off instead of a tall. Francis was reasonable- better than Robbie who is totally out of form.
Its funny nothing is ever Longmire's fault its always the players messing up. Did the players move Mills? Did the players select Francis? Did the players not adjust the game style despite instructions from the coach? If its the later drop the players or drop the coach as he has clearly lost some of the group.
Longmire is a man manager, not a particularly good tactician and more than anything else he has been in the role too long. Even the greatest (of which Longmire isnt) wear out their welcome). Its no coincidence that Richmond's form improved dramatically once Hardwick left. Why, because the players were invigorated by new ideas, a new voice and some new tweaks to the game style.
If we could work out the soft cap problem it would cause I would be giving Hardwick a call, a proven winner combined with a very good list would see us at the very pointy end for years and i dont see another Grand Final humiliation if we managed to get there again.Comment
