We haven’t found the right sub all year. We’ve basically been using our 23rd best player in that role but it is a fairly specialist position in my view. I think the best subs are smaller, quicker, outside players. Corey Warner is possibly our best option we’ve used so far. I’d have liked to have seen Hugo Hall Kahan be given this role at some point. Dylan Stephens once had the attributes but his confidence seems to be in tatters.

What would be ideal would be another Tom Papley who is happy just playing the fourth quarter each week."Fortunately, this is the internet, so knowing nothing is no obstacle to having an opinion!." Beerman 18-07-2017Comment

Most teams all year have had better 2nd halves than us . Freo had there chances but at the moment simply are not good enough , a better team would have blown us off the park . I think we need to use someone that can add run and carry . Poor Clarke got like 3 minutes on the ground but I don’t think he is the answer he simply doesn’t have the leg speed

Agreed with you re Clarke: can tag, can snag the odd goal but has no leg speed so not much value as a sub. Corey is our best bet at the moment, though I’d give HHK a go.Comment

We've only won six second halves this year: R1 vs Gold Coast (20), R2 vs Hawthorn (45), R5 vs Richmond (23), R7 vs GWS (9), R11 vs Carlton (20), R15 vs West Coast (103).
Though we also lost a few second halves by small margins: R4 vs Port Adelaide (2 - their winning margin, ouch), R9 vs Fremantle (4), R18 vs Western Bulldogs (1), R19 vs Fremantle (5)."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment

In the meantime, the last reserves match was pretty close to a complete farce with McAndrew, Owen, Hickey, Ladhams and Buller all running around.Comment

No arguement from me lwjoyner - unfortunately you don't have the same sway over selection committee meeting as our colleague currently enjoys. :winkComment

McAndrew is miles off it. Yes he can bring the ball to ground, but the opposition ruckman have been having a birthday running off and having impact on the game. He is a work in progress, and the early signs are encouraging, but it will take time.
Agree with you on McLean, he is a trier but is undersized, and not the long term solution.
Armartey on the other hand is quick and has natural spring, and in my opinion can play the Sam Reid forward/ ruck role, but again is not the answer to the first ruck problemComment
