And almost certainly no McCartin either, though that should just be for a week. Who knows with Papley.

From the footage it does look like a goal. But the umpire was in the right position and he must have been confident to not go for a review. Plus I noticed we went to pick the ball up before the goal umpire signalled a behind, so they must have thought it hit the post as well.

And what about the field umpire? He would have had to give the all clear and signal by putting either 2 hands up for a goal or 1 hand for a behind. If he was unsure is he allowed to ask for a review or is it only the goal umpire that can request a review?

I saw the start of Nicks' press conference and credit to him he didn't sook it up like some other coaches would. He said from his angle on the bench he couldn't tell. And he blamed the loss on the first half.

The field umpires can certainly instigate a review. When a player claims a ball was touched off the boot it is generally the field umpire who calls for the check.

I have no idea whether or not it did hit the post but the commentators have worked themselves up over the comment by the match commentator that it hit the back of the padding. That looks dubious but it could well have hit higher up the post. Hopefully the AFL will come out tomorrow and say the goal umpire was certain it hit the post and make Dermott look like the prat he is.

Two Swans players immediately pointed at the post.

Agreed Liz- and Dermie is a clown at times. Re the game: the Lizard was immense though Lloyd was poor, but appeared to be injured early. Ollie didn’t do much either. Wicks kicked a nice goal when we were on top but then pretty much disappeared as did Parks and Mills, though he blanketed you know who fairly well.

A great first half set us up and then they were always going to get at us with the crowd behind them. We simply can’t afford to have so many players drop off- points more to fitness than anything else, which is not good with 1 match to go as a must win if we are to hold our place in the 8.

That drop off tonight, especially in the 4th quarter was quite startling! From riches to rags!

I agree with Liz that it has to be fitness. The result of so many players, particularly key players, having had time off for injuries, and those who have been playing with minor injuries for some time, must take its toll in games of such high intensity. It's probably why most of our recent last quarters have been a bit flakey needing one player to stand up and be a 'hero' to get us over the line. Tonight there didn't seem to be anyone, or was it perhaps Blakey? Even Gulden, who seems to be our consistent man of the moment was making errors.

Next week against Melbourne will really be a challenge.

It’s a real concern out midfield has been up and down all year - we don’t seem to win enough ball

The Crows outfit has some outstanding players, so of course they were going to give us an extended touch up at some stage.
There’s nothing bigger in Adelaide than the Crows, although they did froth over that inconsequential LIV golf tournament (who won, can’t recall, doesn’t matter).
The poster will be front page news all week .
Massive Swans pressure early got us the win, however exhausting it must be.
Is that 6 wins in a rowbottom? He’s remarkable.

                      Time in front

                      Adelaide 1minute 26 seconds

                      Swans 1 hour 8mins 50 seconds

I love scoreboard pressure and made sure we did that when it counted - Adelaide did not

I’m absolutely astonished that two posters have come here to say good things about Stephens. I thought he was really horrible. He absolutely does not have the strength to be a blood. Appalling missed tackles that my 14 year old soccer playing son would have stuck. And worse, just not holding into the pill when it was tough inside. Card’s absolutely stamped for mine. We completely stuffed up that pick and now we need to cauterise it. We will not get a pick in the top 40 for him. I find it impossible to believe that even North would give him a game after that effort. Just pitifully weak for an AFL player. Literally play anyone on our list but him next week. Sad (as Donald Trump would say).

“It’s one of the worst halves I’ve seen Adelaide play in a while,” Ricciuto added (regarding first half) ????????

I just think it's unrealistic to not expect that extraordinary pressure and effort we put in in the first half to not have
an effect later in the game. No team can keep that up for four quarters. That effort set us up with a big early lead that
was enough to win the game. Forget the poster/non-poster thing. Was there not a poor umpiring decision earlier in
the game that might have cost us a goal not equally important to the final scores in the game? Umpiring is a long long
way from being an exact science. And it's a side issue anyway. We just have to win. Any way we can.

The thing that always bugs me about these decisions/non-decisions is the focus only falls on a call in the last minute, when there’s probably 10 over the course of the game from the various officiating umpires that make a difference. Let’s say the umps missed that throw from Errol in the third quarter, that gave Adelaide a goal, and it was instrumental in the margin. Should we overturn the result then? Of course not.

I posted on here last week that Brereton is one of the great morons of footy commentary (unless he’s talking forward craft). His babble last night after the match, and that of his co-panellists proves it.

Anyway, I do worry about us walking to next week wounded and undermanned. Paps is clearly unlikely, I’d say McCartin gets a week, Parker looks a bit sore and we were gassed in the last quarter.

Oh, and Mills or Horse, not sure who called the move but putting Mills back at the end, still almost cost us. He’d kept Dawson subdued, but who had the freedom to rip it out of the middle and pump a kick forward for the Rachele goal, literally in a two on one with Mills? The Rat.

Errol was clearly perplexed that he was pinged for that and it gifted the Crows a goal. The Bulldogs get away with what Errol did numerous times every game!

Regarding the point/goal - the Fox commentators have hung, drawn and quartered the goal umpire and I suppose he won't be able to publicly defend himself. Will the Swans defenders who seemed to also think it was a point say anything?
