How much longer are we going to be paying for our recruiting of the NOW RETIRED Buddy Franklin?
Is the new AFL boss going to cut us any slack or is he tarred with the same prejudiced brush?

I for one am getting sick and tired of it and despite us continually succeeding in the face of such prejudice, it is exhausting and must be for the club and the players too.

I agree too that the goal umpire should pursue this through the umpires union. The poor bugger has basically been thrown to the wolves. Shame on you McLaughlan.
I feel for the goal umpire, too. He was in the perfect position to judge and wasn't the only one who though it was a point. Replays show Lloyd pointing at the post as soon as it happened.

What annoys me with these things, is that over and over again, it's judged more on result, rather than intent. That is, if there's head contact, often through whiplash, it's judged as reportable. Whereas, more deliberate attempts to bump are just fine, if fortuitously there's no head contact. For instance, in last night's game, Fogarty once ran past the ball to lay a bump on Stephens, then later he ironed out Blakey, when Blakey was trailing Walker in a marking contest. Both looked more deliberate attempts to do some damage than McCartin's, but I don't think either were even penalised.

Unfortunately we can’t afford to pay any more- we’re skint, unlike the Blues, Fairypups and the rest of the “Establidhment”????

It is within the rules to bump, though. So if there's no head high contact it should be play on so long as it is within a reasonable distance of the ball.

Back to the goal umpire from our game....."The AFL confirmed the goal umpire wouldn’t be available for selection for the rest of the season, but added he was was being provided support by the league."

Wow, I'd hate to be be on the league's wrong side! Oh wait.....

                  From Wiki:

"In Schrödinger's original formulation, a cat, a flask of poison, and a radioactive source are placed in a sealed box. If an internal monitor (e.g. a Geiger counter) detects radioactivity (i.e. a single atom decaying), the flask is shattered, releasing the poison, which kills the cat."

                  Hope that helps.

You'd think this was the only mistake (if it was a mistake - Gil's chest pumping convinces me neither one way nor the other) ever made by an umpire in any game of footy. Were the four field umpires and the relevant boundary umpire all made to self-flagellate, stood down for the season and provided support from the AFL after they stood and watched Miers handball to Jeremy Cameron a good metre over the boundary line last weekend? Has anyone called for the goal that Cameron kicked to be erased from his tally? What if that goal had made a difference to a tight percentage count at the end of the final round?

Agree with you MattW. All the talk about clearances in my mind stems from the lack of a good tap ruckman. You only have to look at how Mason Cox turned the game in Collingwoods favour on Friday night against Brisbane. McInerny had dominated against Cameron who is a good second ruckman, but that is all. We did well last year with the Hicky / Reid combination, but unfortunately injuries ended that, and we have struggled since.
A tap ruckman has to be a priority in the coming trade period

Here’s what a medium impact, high contact, careless decision looks like - which is what Philips got. I think, given McAdam put some mayo on it and got up to play out the game, we can get there.

Agreed, just disgusting behaviour by Gillon. Nothing shouts leadership like publicly throwing a subordinate under the bus when they were doing their best to do their job. What a piece of sht.

Regarding McCartin suspension, have it on good authority that McAdam has a broken jaw. So no ability to challenge the impact. Will have to argue it is not a suspendable action

And there was one in the Melbourne game today where the Melbourne player and the ball were well over the boundary line, with the Boundary Umpire right on the spot, and he missed it. It was replayed many times and there is no doubt the ball was well out. Not sure but there could have been a field umpire close by also. Lets see if the boundary ump gets his marching orders.
