One bad decision against them and suddenly they're the perennial wooden spooners in need of assistance.....the new Norf.

FFS, they were finals bound.....until we beat them.

But I do agree that Nicks and Dawson were all class.

Dawson & partner are close friends with Parker & Reid and their partners I think. So I wouldn’t expect any grudges off the field.

I certainly don't have any crows bias, but say gulden was playing rugby at that moment and he want to get the ball to the other swans player (lizard?), Ask yourself, would his actions be any different. Throw.

Also remember the goal umpires only mistake is that he didn't refer it upstairs. As we've seen with other referals, goal umps get it wrong at least once a game.
Refer it, and the 'crisis' is over.

For them to even ask just shows the corruption that's available in the AFL thanks to Gill.

Respectfully, that’s not a mistake. And it’s wrong for the media to keep propagating that.

They are told to refer it if they are in doubt, not if it’s ‘close’. He was clearly in no doubt. He was right not to refer it given that.

As an aside, I would still love to hear from Jake Lloyd. His arm went straight up to indicate a nick, and he went straight back to collect the ball for a kick in - as if it wasn’t in doubt. I get players try it on a bit, but he seemed confident. (To be fair, Mills had an oh @@@@, we’ve lost look on his face).

I think the goal umpires have been, prior to last weekend, under pressure to not refer as much

I'll end the Gulden thing by saying we'll agree to disagree. As for the goal umpire thing, I agree....if he had referred it, crisis over......but then the X (Twitter) footage would have come out and we would have been in crisis....but not Victoria or Adelaide of course!

Actually, I'm watching The Front Bar right now and I understand they are joking but they are giving the goal umpire some real curry that's for sure! It's almost getting a bit uncomfortable.

Try being the umpire. He’s living it. Turned off social media and barely taking calls (understandably).

That was the point I was making. Rightly or wrongly, he was confident in his call and chose not to review. It was his right to make the call.

                          1) If the umpire was following the correct procedure then why are they standing him down.
                          2) onnwhat basis have they determined that it was “definitely” a goal not a point? What tech have they used and where is this evidence ?
                          3) I hate Gil for handling this the way he has and deflecting blame onto one of his - potentially blameless - employees

I can’t be 100% certain that he wouldn’t take a bribe. But I am so absolutely certain that he wouldn’t that I’m willing to offer pretty much anything to back that he wouldn’t. He take his role very seriously and isolates any Crows sentiment on match day.

A Venn diagram would look like this

                              crows O O umpire

He made a call. I expect that in him mind (rightly or wrongly) he was 100% certain that it was a behind, so he backed himself in (which is what he is supposed to do). If he had any doubt, he would have called for a goal review (which is also what he’s supposed to do).

There is a difference between being certain you are right and actually being wrong, but on a Venn Diagram those two events can intersect.

And just to blur the lines further

I wonder what his views are on whether he made the right call.

He did, re Mills. And the behind the post shot shows Blakey's shoulders slump as he walks back, before perking up as the behind is called.

Ray Chamberlain's interview with Whateley this week was worth a listen. Suggested that the field umpires, in detecting whether there's a reason to doubt the goal umpire's call, will take into account cues from the players. Whateley suggested Lloyd pointing up the goalpost was one in favour of it behind the right call and Chamberlain quickly agreed.

I'd love someone to ask Lloyd. It's possible he heard the sound of Mills slapping the post.

I still think it was a goal, but the whole thing does have a nagging grassy knoll quality.
