Yeah. Would mind them rolling with Roberts as the sub rather than Clarke. I guess (talking myself out of it) Clarke is more likely to make good decisions in clutch late game moments.

Scott Stevens is a blast from the past. I hold players from the 2003 finals victory over Port in Adelaide in almost the same revered class as anyone who played in a flag side. In my 30 years of watching, probably the greatest non-GF victory we’ve had.

It's not my favourite win. I have a couple of South Melbourne wins from the 70s that are dearer to my heart but, yep, the 2003 final win against the Power on their home ground when we were supposed to be no chance at all was just sublime!!

GWS hosting us in a final is - I believe - a close to impossible outcome.

GWS would need to get up to 6th to host a final. For that to happen we would have to lose (and the Saints lose, and the Giants make up more than 3% on the Saints). It we lose and the Giants win, we will finish 8th (and thus play the 5th placed team, not the 6th placed team). GWS can't finish 5th.

There is one other permutation of results that could have the Giants finish 6th and us 7th but it would require highly unlikely results - us to draw, Saints to lose, and the Giants to beat Carlton by a sufficient margin to make up more than 6% on us. A draw would slightly reduce our own percentage. For example, an 80-80 draw would decrease it by almost exactly 0.5% (in an additive/subtractive sense, not a relative sense). The Giants would need to win by over 100 points against Carlton. The more they concede, the larger their margin would need to be. A 101-0 result would just do the trick (if we draw 80-80) but once they start to concede points, the margin they need increases. If Carlton score 20, the Giants would need 124. If Carlton score 50, the Giants would need 157.

If they were playing West Coast or Essendon (again), the second leg wouldn't be beyond imagination. But it would still require the Swans and Dees to have drawn first.

It's unlikely, but depending on earlier results, Carlton could put the cue in the rack, if 5th is locked in and GWS made up about 5% last week..
Anyway, my point really was the getting a Sydney final with no travel for the first week would greatly improve our chances of a flag in a wide open season.. 4 weeks travel in a row = impossible., 3 weeks = maybe.

Saw that too. He’s one of the few who mentions it, but I believe it’s widely considered we were robbed that day (from a couple of journos I met subsequently). I also believe that game had a significantly negative impact on our start in 2017.

It is pleasing and amazing that a MS Journalist admitted the Bulldogs were given a charmed umpire run in 2016. I paid a thousand dollars to see that match and swore as long as Gil Mc runs the AFL I would never go to another AFL game. Thus it was the last game I attended.

Goodes was magnificent throughout. Remember his rushed behind "he's kicking goals at both ends"? And Baz as ruckman punching the ball out over and over so the others had a breather. That and Nicky D's Semi are the two games for me - but I watch all of this and just the last quarter of the SCG game.
