Fox or Melican irrelevant if our mids get smashed

Need big ones from Parker and Mills
That is the key to success, if our midfield fail it won’t matter who we have in defence

I think the selections are akin to horses for courses here. Melican played against Carlton in round 11 when we won by 26 points and our defence (without Rampe and both McCartins) did very well to hold Carlton to 6 goals and McKay and Curnow to 1 goal 6 behinds between them.

Fox played on Curnow then. They must think McCartin takes Curnow and Pelican is a better matchup for McKay?

They'll probably mix and match throughout the game, but I'd start with them the other way around. McCartin has struggled with Curnow in the past and I think his style suits McKay better. When Curnow is able to jump at the ball it's pretty hard for any defender to stop him, but Melican's a bit quicker by foot than McCartin. Whether he's quicker in mind is another question.

Whoever gets the job on Curnow will need help from Rampe and Blakey to try and keep Curnow from getting a clean run and jump at the ball.

I tend to like Melican’s inclusion, as it gives us extra air cover and spares Blakey from being preoccupied with a tall at times if they use TDK forward. Plus, Lewis was in terrific nick prior to his injury. My one qualification as someone who’s a fan of Melicans best, is he can take a game or two to click back into gear.

For whatever reason, Horse seems to have lost a bit of faith in Fox at times this season. There must be something small but important in his game that’s not evident to me watching on TV. Having said that, he’s the perfect sub for this game and I hope like hell it’s him rather than Clarke or Francis.

I agree with everything you’ve said about Melican and the sub. Ffs neither of those two

Noticed a paywall article on the HS highlighting we have 6 Academy players playing tonight (Campbell, Wicks, Gulden, Heeney, Mills & Blakey). Without able to read it, not sure if it is a genuine compliment or another attempt to re-ignite the so called "contensious" Academy debate should the Blues lose tonight.

Matchups on their key forwards won't matter a bit if our midfield doesn't turn up. Can't afford to let let Carlton have easy exits from stoppages.

At the supermarket this morning they were playing Sweet Caroline. Is that an omen?
