In finals it is a truism and it is absolutely critical to get the lead early so u have more options on how you want to attack or defend the game.

Doesn’t mean that the team trailing can’t win…because as we know 1 out of 5 times the team leading does loose…it just means the team behind is always playing catch-up and has less risk reward options in their favour.

I can’t think of a sport that I wouldn’t want to be in front early?

Geelong showed us that in spades last year……lock it in expose our weakness in our front half via shoving our ruckman around like a rag doll……kick some goals early……then take on some more risk around the contest via extra numbers as Geelong did and nailed it.

Carlton went for it also first half with intense numbers around the ball and we just couldn’t get ahead let alone get the ball in the parts of the ground that mattered most.

The second half of a game when u are trailing always looks more flattering because you have increased numbers around the ball, more possession and the leading team tends to drop back to a plus one and or the defensive side of the balls ups / throw ins etc

The team leading has earned that right and as we know only 20% of teams behind at the end of 3qtr time win.

That is a stat you don’t want to gamble against. It is one of my top3 stats that u don’t won’t to be on the wrong side of…….EVER !!!!

So yes thrilling is the team coming from behind. Nervous as hell are the fans of the team holding the lead. No one wants to loose what they have.

We have to get better at being in front early in the games that matter most…….FINALS !!!!!!

If u lead by 1 goal or 5 goals it really does not matter because u have the upper hand and have so many more options with shaping the game to your terms.

Carlton were not in control or dictating terms. That is not a true reflection of the contest last night. 23 scores to 19 says a fair bit, as does Parker’s comment after the game that we ‘had them on the ropes’.

7 versus 23 points is a landslide for a game that was settled by 6pts

Cannot believe that one coach didn't see Gulden as worth a vote!

Another broken AFL system, he was given 2 knowing a challenge is coming.
Will go down to 1 week.

Careless, High, High, they will argue Medium impact and get it.

If AFL said Medium and 1 week it would be open to legal challenges down to a fine

                Joke of a system

Heard Andy Mahr give Gulden a big wrap on SEN yesterday. Reckons he has the rare talent of able to execute skilful plays under the extreme pressure of a finals match, on all parts of the ground which most wouldn't even dare to attempt. Andy couldn't even contemplate Gulden's ceiling & what he may achieve in his career.

I think Gulden will come home hard in the Brownlow & possibly finish in the top 5. Serious contender next year, after more or less being noticed by the umpires & the media in general this year. Surely a lock to win our B&F this year? (Blakey to also figure prominently).

To anyone that has only been following AFL for 25 years or less will now know why us older supporters have a dislike for Carlton supporters, they are the most arrogant bunch of supporters you can meet.
They think it is their right to be the premiers. Lets hope they get their right whack this week.

Yes, they think they’re entitled- remember the check book days when they bought all the top players like Kernahan, Bradley et al they could get their hands on! Dislike them with a passion after the “Bloodbath” but more so after they tried to kill us off in 82. Love when we beat them, more than any other club ( well maybe Collingwood!) and should have smashed them last week……ok… next year for sure!????

Agree about Carlton's history concerning us but quite like Michael Voss- good type of guy.

What gets me is all this noise about long suffering Carlton supporters seeing their team in finals for first time in 10 years! Big deal!!! We went 25 years without a finals appearance (1945-70) & then wait to till 77 for the next & then 86 after that. Took us till 1996 (over 50 years) to record first final win and till 2005 to win one in Melbourne (60 years).
