They just make it up as they go along. Horrible officiating at times tonight, but we see it week in week out.

4 umpires has just made it worse.

Disappointing outcome tonight, but like so much of the season we were our own biggest enemies in many ways.

What I want to see in 2024 is a lot more of that take it on, free flowing footy from the 3rd quarter. Too often we don't take the game on often enough for mine.

A very frustrating season but tonight gave it an appropriate ending..poor kicking for goal, some ordinary decision making late when good players should have done better, and the usual vomit of dreadful umpiring and garbage score reviews (the soft call has to go for mine - either trust the goal umpire completely or review it without a decision effectively half locked in).

Great game tonight from McLean - he has come on great this year and I hope will build from here. Errol is a superstar, and there is plenty to work with in our squad.

I hope a long hot summer of goal kicking practice is on the way haha.

Onwards to post buddy in 2024.

Biggest issue for me was first use, they were at the fall of every ball first and we struggled to get a clean clearance.

We only won it back on turnover in defence
I’ve said it all year if anyone thinks our midfield is good enough they are kidding themselves

I watched the players in the warm up and they were kicking them straight through. It's all in the head. It's something we obviously need to improve.

You’d like to think that a coach would take remedial action over the course of the season that would improve the conversion rate. This clearly hasn’t happened, and if it has, it has been an epic fail
Inclined to agree, but it's hard to fix quickly, and mid-season. I don't think it's a sole focus point on Horse for that reason

I don’t think there was any chance we were going to win the whole thing, so I think that almost-but-not-quite performance sums up our year and should tell the coaches and recruiters where we need to improve.

I actually think Melican played pretty well; few of their goals came from set shots, but Rampe is getting on we need a genuine KPD
Parker forward might be what we see in 2024 so we need a big preseason from Sheldrick and a ball winning mid
                Clearly need a decent ruck
More class up forward would help too

Has to be more than just, the reason I didnt rate Cox so much.

If he is the mid coach, something is horribly wrong in there

Carlton were the first 2 or 3 to the ball out of clearance and off the loose ball.

Paps is the only one that hits clearance clean.

We also have quite a few that are clean until the pressure is on than most of the team is fumbly.

We need a second decent small forward to go with Papley. Hopefully Kostanty has a big pre season.

Wicks has done well to get to where he is, but he is never going to be the level we need imho. That miss tonight at a critical point was just not good enough for a player in his role.

I missed the game but have read the entire thread.

Is watching the replay going to do my head in with the umpiring that seemed lopsided, particularly in the third quarter?

We are mid table for accuracy. Below us are Melbourne and Brisbane. Fagan and Goodwin obviously both hopeless.

It wasn’t terrible, but some critical calls and some critical non-calls were frustrating. Calls seemed to go against us when we wrested back momentum, which was disappointing.

If they’d given the second score review as a goal we’d have lost by a point. Having a soft call is admitting that the technology isn’t good enough.

What tonight taught me is that teams defending 3/4 time leads tend to look hesitant and go into their shells. We looked to have all the running for a while. Credit to Carlton for steadying
