Feels like a shame to lose Gardiner. He seems to have grown into the role. But Cameron sounds like a heavy hitting replacement. He must like it in Sydney because I am sure he would have been courted by Melbourne clubs for various assistant coaching roles.

The two appointments mean our academy faces a lack of continuity in management/leadership. Cameron and McVeigh were only in their roles for a season.

Not losing Gardiner entirely. Just heard on SEN he will act as our Melbourne consultant on tribunal matters etc...New role.

That sounds like a role created for the sake of creating a role.

I’m hoping we won’t need a “tribunal consultant” next season because all the players will be onfield angels.

Reckon his retainer will largely be case-based.

Anyway, a great reward for Mark McVeigh. He seems deeply impressive - and he notionally gets to boss around his little bro, so that's quite funny.

Whilst I wasn't a major fan of Leon Cameron, I reckon Horse will value having two people around him who've been in the big chair in Cameron and M McVeigh (albeit his was temporary). I suspect until you've done it, you don't really know what it's like. Having people to bounce off would be super important, even for someone as experienced as Horse.

Happy with M.McVeigh. Sorry to see Gardiner go - decent guy who did a good job. Cameron very solid replacement who looks cemented in Sydney.

Wonderful appointments. Now to appoint one of the nearly retired players to the Academy

Newly retired maybe? Surely you're not thinking Rampe or Reid?

It'll be nice IF Dew and Shaw come back to head the Academy. They are both good at developing young talent.

Stoked Mark McVeigh is on board. I've been hoping this would happen for a while.

Department changes now official on club's website. Only difference is Mark McVeigh is mentioned as Asstistant Coach rather than as Senior Assistant, as direct replacement for Don Pyke.

Possible that Dean Cox could be promoted into that senior role instead?

Heard whisper that Cox has rejected coaching overtures from WC, as he's seen as a candidate to succeed Longmire. Unsure of that validity.
