Swans chat Off season reminiscences for history heads

When was the last time we had an AA ruckman on the list? Have we EVER had an AA ruckman on the list? (Looks like Spida Everitt was).

Maybe Frank Johnson. But I think he was still playing for Port Melbourne at the time.

I think Graham Teasdale may have qualified as an All Australian if if existed then.

The season he won the Brownlow I reckon I watched 15-16 games and I have NEVER seen such an impactful player.

He kicked 17 goals in the first two rounds (one from damn near the centre of the MCG) and Ian Stewart decided he wasnt a forward so put him in the ruck!

If you want to count Adam Goodes as a ruckman, he was selected as the AA ruckman in 2003.

Can Sydney trade their way to a premiership again?
Great article.....and re: our recent Grand Finals, very diplomatically put "Unlucky to lose in 2016". Mmm yes, 'unlucky' indeed.

Also, in regard to the "unjustifiable trading ban", he says "which they removed after one season"....did they? I thought it lasted the intended two full seasons.

They relaxed it a little to allow us to trade in Sinclair when Jetta announced he wanted to leave. I can’t remember the exact terms of the relaxation. Maybe just player in for player out?

He was truly magnificent that year! I saw most of those games, too, and the one that stood out was when he virtually beat Collingwood on his own at Victoria Park. Sensational!!

There was no All Australian team in 1977, back then the AA team was only selected when there was a State v State carnival (1972 nd 1979 were the cloest).
So Adam Goodes is the closest we've ever come to an AA ruckman, the only other contender was Greame John in 1966.

I had the same thought as Stevoswan on the length of the trade ban when I read this article, but you're right they gave us a loophole for this player swap (presumably after their lawyers told them they were looking down the barrel of a restricted trade practices lawsuit).

I can still see his arms pulling in mark after mark and the crowd roaring “Teaser!”

Hmm I did wonder about this (Goodesy was a marvel wasn't he?) - as I say Spida's eventual trade to us would be, I think, the last time we had an AA ruckman on our list (he won 3 of them, who knew?).
