Ron Andrews would certainly not forget Stewie Gull lol.

A couple of players from that list:

Morwood went to Collingwood so did Teaser and Young I think. Young could play some great games but not consistent.

Max Robertson unlucky he had knee injuries could have been a great player.

Very excited about this thread and greatly looking forward to the reminiscing from posters who were South Melbourne tragics before becoming Sydney Swans tragics.

I'm sure this thread will go off on many different tangents. Let me start one.

Your favourite South Melbourne game? I've got 2.

1970 Round 11 South beat Collingwood at the Lake Oval on the Queen's Birthday Monday. We'd had a good start to the season but this win showed we'd arrived as a serious finals contender. Sensational!

1973 Round 14 South beat Geelong at the Lake Oval to break a 29 game losing streak. Just like winning a Grand Final! Heavenly!

      GO BLOODS!

Yes, Andrews picked the wrong guy when he picked Stewie Gull! Stewie had boxed professionally, I think. I am interested in horse racing and a few months ago watched a race where a horse called Tom the Star was running with the jockey wearing colours that were virtually a South Melbourne guernsey design. Thinking the owners were possibly Swans fans, I looked up that horses ownership details. Tom the Star is owned by an S. Gull and 3 other people with the Gull surname.

Teaser and Young definitely went to Collingwood. David Young was brilliant but, as you say FL, very inconsistent! Never reached the heights expected of him with us or Collingwood. Shane Morwood went to Collingwood, Paul Morwood controversially went to St.Kilda with Silvio Foschini. (Happy to be told my recollections are inaccurate!)

Yes Sandridge your are right on Paul Morwood - got my Morwood's mixed up. I think we had the best of the 3 though. That transfer to St.Kilda was totally against the rules but somehow went ahead.

Paul Morwood and Foschini going to St.Kilda was a huge story at the time because you're right - the move was against the rules. Not exactly sure how St.Kilda got away with it but the phrase "restraint of trade" pops into my head for some reason.

Am I right in thinking Paul Morwood ended up back with us?

Yes, i do recall Paul Morwood did return to us briefly under the Edelsten recruiting coups of the mid 80's. I also remember David Young kicking a career best 6 goals against Fitzroy at the Lakeside Oval. In Stewart rewarded him by giving him the night off training!

I don't think the 3 Morwood brothers ever got to play together? It hurts looking back we had let slip the unique distinction of having 2 sets of 3 brothers all playing in the same senior team together (Tony, Paul, Shane Morwood & Terry, Neil, Anthony Daniher).

Paul Morwood did return to us in 1996 but was cut because of cash and cap issues IIRC. He then finished his career at Collingwood in 87 to run a pub

Perpetuating injustice against the Swans has been a hallmark of the league's administration over many years. Relocating the club against the wishes of the members, the only foundation club required to pay licence fees, imposing a trade ban without proper due process despite breaking no rules ...

Harsh on Shane who represented Vic 3 years in a row, was in the VFL team of the year and played in a Collingwood premiership. He did alright

The Bombers did manage to play all 4 Danihers in one game - Chris gets overlooked, but he played over 100 games.

In a lot of ways, 1977 should have been the start of a great Swans era - but Carlton poached Ian Stewart and we appointed Tuddy.

The top five disasters of modern Swans history.

Excepting the Vic park game. I rated the 1979 StKilda Swans lakeside premiership. We absolutely flogged them and Max James was at his absolute aerial best. A very bright point in a horrible year.

Here are the stats for that game. A huge win for us and Max James with 9 marks kicked 5.2 !

Amazingly, there were 66 free kicks paid in the game - 34 for us and 32 for St.Kilda.

David Young was quite a brilliant player, but I believe suffered from heel spurs that hindered his career.

I believe in that game in 1970 we kicked 3 goals in time on in the last quarter to hit the lead, then Peter McKenna marked a split second after the siren. I think he was about 30 metres out and would surely have kicked the goal. We also trounced Geelong at the Lake Oval that year.

They also played a State game for NSW in 1990 when NSW beat Victoria. I have a poster of that NSW side, filled with Swans and the 4 Danihers
