Watched that game on tv. Both sides looked paralyzed. Towards the end of Eade's reign, players were terrified of making a blue.

I'm not sure that he came back on that day. I was there and he was carried off on a stretcher. On Wikipedia and another site it says that remarkably he played again the next week. One memory I have of Cressa, and I stand corrected, but in that infamous last game that Eade coached where we drew with St Kilda, it was Cressa who burst from the centre and kicked a goal that put us in front only for St Kilda to kick a point to draw the game. At the time it was described as the worst game played in modern times.Comment

Hall of Fame Inductee: Daryn Cresswell
Cresswell's biography is worth reading. Annoyingly, it's called "Crezza." (I would have thought his name would be spelt Cressa? I might be wrong. And pedantic!)
The book is a warts and all account of his life so far. His after-football life has been "colourful" to say the least. He's been no angel but he's honest and owns his mistakes. I loved him as a player for us - liked him even more after I finished the book.Comment

That occasion is mentioned in this video which was made for his induction into the Swans Hall of Fame.

While his name is spelled Cresswell, I’m fairly sure his nickname is accented with a “z” when pronounced, so the title is ok for me.
Daryn has been appointed the senior coach of South Cairns for next season and I’m pretty sure he runs a landscaping businessComment

I remember seeing him in the 2's after we recruited him - he was definitely carrying a lot of excess weight. Whether that was why Geelong dumped him I don't know, but someone at the Swans believed he had something to give, and he gave so much to the club. I am so glad he's got his life back together again, it's amazing how big a mess of your life addiction can cause.

I'm pretty sure that there was a similar kneecap incident a few years later, involving another player, which is being conflated with the Cressa incident in the collective mind here.
I reckon Tadgh Kennelly did something similar a couple of years into his career - bunged his horribly dislodged kneecap back into place on the field, and HE was the one who then simply got up and resumed business as if not much had happened.
Anyone recall? My opinion is objective truth in its purest formComment

Remember Kenneally's shoulder going out a few times and Leo Barry helping him to put it back in. Can't remember kneecap incident with him. Not saying it didn't happen.Comment

I don't recall similar kneecap incidents, but he did have kneecap issues several times. For example: joint damage (2007), a dislocation (2008) and an off-season dislocation (2011).Comment

Came across on Facebook this private collection of VFL colour photos which contain a few good shots from games at the Lakeside Oval. Photographer must've been an Essendon supporter as they're present in each. I'm certain these were taken in 1975 as it was the only year South wore the red shorts with the hooped socks. They began wearing the all red socks the following year. This was the year Colour TV first became available as Fitzroy is wearing yellow shorts, which didn't last long.
I recognise ruckman Vic "stretch" Aanensen & Steve Hoffman from some of the shots. Think No 32 was defender Peter Brown and No 5 was Greg Miller (before John Rantall reclaim it the following year upon his return from North)

Great picture of small press box and scoreboard. Used to climb up and sit in it when my older brother played in the Under 19s. Nostalgia on steroids!Comment
