Freo money would be similar
West Coast would be ridiculous, if he was going there, you would want Reid signed long term

At the end of 2025 Chad is still not a free agent. If he wants to go then one of those 2 WA clubs has to stump up 2 first round picks, preferably Top 10.Leave a comment:

is suspect the big issue for us is if Freeo or West Coast go crazy on their $ offer and or years...........that will make it very hard to compete and we may have to trade if we dont match.
Lots to play out but you would think his current contract for 2025 will be miles behind what he will attract in 2026 ie $1mill pa plus

Do we know what Chad is on currently and how much is he worth? We can’t really compare him to the Bont or Crisp or say Petracca. A 4 year deal @ around 1Mill a year- can we afford that? I wouldn’t think we could offer more.Leave a comment:

The Chad is our next Heeney for me
But It’s hard to have two in the team due $ required
I suppose we have gone a little lighter cost on our Key Talls at either end to go heavy on mids
makes sense if so……..ie best chance of keeping The ChadLast edited by Auntie.Gerald; 1 December 2024, 04:32 PM.Leave a comment:

The club will make the best offer it can- everyone knows his ability and we all want to keep him. But if his head is turned, we need to act as we don’t want another Dawso scenario. Every player has to be 100% committed- simple as that and if someone wants to go home and play elsewhere then just say so and we’ll get the best deal we can. It was different with Parks as his career is coming to an end and it’s understandable he wants to extend it as far as possible and then of course the money that comes with it. Nevertheless, I would have preferred him to stay and play with us for his 300th and beyond, and be a 1 club champion.
We would've been better off to have done that during this trade period, as we would've got 2 x top 10 picks minimum for Chad in such a highly rated (Super) draft, whilst year remaining on his contract. He would of course had to agree with that.
The club may've possiblely had that in mind from its Dawson learnings, but getting Chad to re-sign is the utmost preferred option whilst we're in the window.
Hopefully the club has an inkling that Chad will sign on. I'm optimistic he'll do so to FA (2 years minimum hoping 4+).
Chad, please decide now what you want to do- you owe it to the club!👍 1Leave a comment:

We’d get a premium for him if the trade happens on our terms and can split his value to increase our depth.
Don’t think there’s many players beyond Errol and Blakey I’d have a “not for sale” sign for personally. We don’t want to let it drag out and get another Dawson trade.

We don't need another list clogger.Just for the heck off it I looked up Ben Paton on the Saints site. 26yo medium defender at 187cm from North Albury. Recovered from broken leg and this year a ruptured tendon. Below average in all stats on front page, i.e. disposals, kicks, tackles, marks, handballs and meters gained. Why did we recruit him when he is not good enough for the Saints and we have also taken Bice, Andrew, and Leidler for a similar role as well as retaining Francis and Hamling. In my view we have the least need for an injury prone medium defender of any of the positions on our list. Does anybody disagree?Leave a comment:

I hope he stays Long term
We could do a 3yr deal with the view to reassess after 2yrs.
1- Add 2 yrs to the 3 or
2 - Seek a trade back home with a year to run and therefore hold leverage at the trade tableLeave a comment:

A 2-year deal would be a rubbish result. Then the speculation would start over in two years, with the added complication of the possibility of his departing via free agency. Free agency would be a bad outcome because the late first-round pick we would receive as compensation would be unders.
The possibilities:
(1) Chad signs a deal that makes him a Swan until he's at least 30 years old.
(2) He chooses to leave and we get two or three first-round picks in exchange.
(3) He signs a short deal to take him to free agency, then leaves via free agency and we get a late first-round pick for him.
I hope that option 1 happens. If he chooses to leave, I much prefer option 2 because getting back a single compensation pick in the teens would be unders. I would rather get trade value equivalent to multiple first-round picks than just one, especially with Academy player Max King being highly rated: 10 draft prospects to watch in 2025 (Cal Twomey, afl.com.au).Leave a comment:

The club is particularly high on Snell. He is tracking towards a senior debut, possibly quite early depending on circumstances and injuries. If his trajectory remains the same, we should be very grateful to Mark McVeigh who insisted on his recruitment - having coached him in the Allies.I’m also very excited about young Riak, as well as our other young recruits Dattoli and Bowman. As you said Auntie, Snell and Edwards are showing a lot of promise and could take Lloyd’s spot as I don’t think he should be first choice every week now. I like Matty Roberts as he has pace and generally a good user of the ball with his kicking. Not sure where Braeden fits in- he’s too good to leave out but hasn’t really been consistent enough, though he has been moved around a fair bit. Maybe back pocket to relieve Harry?
Up front, Joel needs to show consistency as he’s had a good run of games, otherwise we need to blood Buller. As the GF showed, we need more depth in midfield though on paper this doesn’t look obvious. Can Sheldrick or Cleary step up? From what we’ve seen so far, I don’t think Adams is good enough anymore, so Coxy needs to work most on our midfield to both help our forwards and to stop our defenders being under siege. But hey, I’m saying the bleeding obvious!?
