Also, with Rampe out, the first game in which we looked a bit young/naive.
Parker and Mills back, and a bedded in Adams, should help us be more resilient.Comment

As an aside, with Rampe likely out, we are about to unravel the mystery of who is in our leadership group, which the club never unveiled.
He’s been captaining the side with Mills out, so . . . drum roll please.'Delicious' is a fun word to sayComment

We certainly need to play a lot better than that. Fumbling when put under pressure, not backing each other and not manning up properly. Misdirected kicks and hand passes- these are all signs of a team put under more pressure than they can handle. I think the scoreboard flattered us, yet we did ok in small patches. So what’s our problem and how do we rectify this insipid play? For one thing, we’re missing a bit of leadership. Paps and Isaac needed to slow things down to make sure we regained composure, especially when Ramos went off. Our youngsters seemed to panic-this is where Parks and Mills could have settled them down and enabled them to regroup. Hope they all learned from this display and play like the true team we really can and should be. In fairness, Richmond we’re very good, let’s give credit where it’s due.Comment

Horrible game, not one positive to take out of it.
Not even going to bother comment on individual players because not one of them could hold their head up after that effort, other than a non football person watching the game with me couldn’t believe the lack of effort (tank) from Amartey in the second half
Same old issues resurfacing in games at the MCG, Richmond are a very ordinary team.Comment

We have the perfect replacement for Rampe already in the team. Put Robbie Fox back in the backline where he belongs! If we need another tall then look at bringing in Hamling, but I'm not sure he'll be needed this week.

Our annual chaotic stinker. You can see it coming from a mile out where the bounce of the ball, our own mistakes and the run of the opposition is gonna get us.
Some ticks to Isaac, McInerney, Campbell, Rowie (though he went quiet after half time), and Grundy’s persistence.
But boy some of them were off their tucker today. Errol is a star but his defensive run was dreadful today. And some of the decision making . .
Chad, you’ve never kicked a goal from 60m so stop trying. Hayward, you had the distance so don’t try round the corner from 45m out at a slight angle. Roberts, you’ll learn from today between taking the game on and the impossible or dumb option.
And midfield, bombing the ball onto Amartey’s head - as much as he was terrible in that one contest vs Vlaustin - isn’t a successful strategy, particularly when Logan was making space on two or three occasions.
One other thing, and how should I put this delicately. Lloyd behind the ball deeply worries me. He’s been a star of the club and yes, had 32 possessions today. But I can’t think of a possession that hurt the opposition and giving him kick in duties wasn’t wise as he always goes short to the pocket. He used to create his own space down back but not today. In fact he occasionally ran himself or a team mate into trouble. I get with Harry out and Rampe off in the second half we might have thought we needed his leadership down back. But I’d rather see him higher up the ground. His instincts down back don’t lend themselves to how we’re trying to play.
PS: I’d love to hear from someone at the ground but our defensive run looked off today. Like, very off.Comment

Dont need Hamling, Melican and Tom Mc are enough talls, put Robbie in the Ramps RoleComment

You can keep bagging the team if that makes you feel better or you can move on and look at things a bit more positively. Your choice.....and obviously the team will have a good look at themselves and learn from yesterday's game.....probably acknowledging that they may have got a little ahead of themselves and underestimated the opposition a little.....or a lot.Last edited by stevoswan; 1 April 2024, 10:30 AM.Comment

Perhaps if Dusty and Grimes had played we may have been better mentally prepared. There was a lot of arrogance about the way we played today with fumbling and turnovers from kicks that consistently missed targets when they were not under pressure.Comment

Always fun to go over the match posts the next day, after a loss. There's a real pattern that repeats itself season after season.....that has become quite predictable and tiresome.
Having said that, I do agree with 'some' of the negativity....but only some and I'll leave to the club (ie: those that have a clue) to break it all down and learn what has to be learned from such a disappointing loss.
Keeping things on a positive note, all I can say is I pity the Eagles next week.Last edited by stevoswan; 1 April 2024, 10:28 AM.Comment

Good post. I'm going to let a lot of comments pass through to the keeper this season for sanity's sake.Comment
