A forgettable game. Our kicking was really poor and we only got it together in the last quarter. Again got beaten at centre clearances. If we are going to keep looking for the centre corridor with short kicks they have to be accurate. Harry C had a poor game. Maybe should have come back after the bye.

I wonder about the Don Pyke influence; took us a while to overcome

Yeah, some of us, me included, were thinking a few weeks ago that it was going to be hard to fit Adams, Parker and eventually Mills into the side. It will be very easy.....we so need them.

Pyke is the CEO. He really shouldn't be getting involved in the coaching.

Besides, putting pressure on the opposition is hardly a great innovation. Its AFL 101. I think the question is why WC don't do it more often. They have no excuses for how soft they've been for the opening month of the season. Last year they maybe had something of an "out" because of their injuries. But with the senior players they've had available all this year, the effort they showed today really should be the expectation every week.

Any chance we can find some defenders ? McCartin is so out of form and Melican isn’t up to it, one interceptor would be nice -

Anyway, that game was seriously embarrassing.....and as I said on the 'Rnd 4 (Gather Round) - vs Eagles at Mt Barker, Adelaide Hills, at 1:30 PM, Saturday 6 April 2024' thread, our squad better work through whatever is going on re: the Wicks situation, soon because something is off and we almost lost to a team we should have annihilated.

To the players, your not playing this game for selected teammates, you play for all your teammates, all the fans and for the club that pays you big money to 'do what you love'. Get your proverbial 'excrement' together.
Absolutely spot on. The Wicks situation has rocked the club and is 100% the cause of us being off.

I know the inside story and parties involved and can only say that Wicks has been unfairly hung out to dry.

We have a bye and no game again until 21 March. Plenty of time for the team to try and sort out any friction etc.

But, we play our bogey team, the Suns.

Possible that Parker will be ready to return, and hopefully Wicks situation can be resolved within the team by then too. Whilst it was good to get Taylor into the team, having a bye doesn't help with form/consistency, and there is no VFL game for us either until the 21st either.

It was a good thing that the site was down because my fingers were getting a workout! It made me just concentrate on the game.

We were able to finally play our game in the last quarter and managed to start consistently hitting targets in red and white. I couldn't believe how many kicks went off the side of the boot!

As others have mentioned, I thought Heeney was the better player over the 4 quarters. But Gulden really stood up in the second half.

I think the bye has come at a good time so we can regroup after the last couple of weeks. If the Wicks situation is an issue, then we have to get over it.

Just talking crap here, but Hayward with 2 goals, 18 disposals and 9 marks in his home state, may increase contract offers from Crows/Port.

Looking at the game stats, Gulden with an amazing 719 meters gained, but Duggan with 12 marks.

                      Melican, 2 marks, no tackles.
                      Jordan 12 disposals
                      Lloyd 13 disposals

                      Not great reading!

Just watching the game on delay. Early in 1st quarter. The camera work and angles are terrible. I can’t see whom gets the ball 1/2 the time.

So much worse than SCG or Optus. The product been compromised so some people in the Adelaide Hills can watch a live AFL game at their ground.

Just turned into F1 qualifying and what a sports product that is. F1 would never compromise their sport by going to a race track in the hills with 10% of the usual capacity and bad camera angles.

These three are the ones we need to look at and Cunningham had 5 touches (but he get a pass for this week) We are on desperate need of a Key defender who can intercept mark.

I get a bit annoyed at people’s assertions about the “Wicks situation”. We know nothing, in spite of some on here who claim to have inside knowledge. And I’d say whatever happened has probably had zero impact on the team’s performances. Wicks is a fringe player at best and he doesn’t appear from other players’ reactions on the field as being the most loved bloke on the list. I suspect his omission last week was poor form more than anything else.
Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.

If Lloyd's role is too hide in the shadows and not get a kick he's doing a fantastic job.

100% agree with this. I feel we are one of the few teams that doesn't have a decent intercept marking defender. Tom can do it a little, but he's definitely not elite in that area, and it has become a major weapon in the modern game to have intercept defender's to build an attack from.

It's an area we need to try and improve upon, and maybe Hamling might be someone that can do this? It's definitely worth a shot IMO.
