Suns v Saints .Yet another game decided by a dodgy umpiring decision.

Just about to write the same thing. Max King got gifted, what ended up being the winning goal, for deciding to wrestle Mac Andrew, about 80 metres of the ball. Which was a shame for Andrew, as he was playing a really good game. And for much of the second half, St Kilda didn't really look like scoring, because the Suns defence, especially Andrew, Uwland and Collins were right on top.
Some turgid umpiring decisions today have cost teams dearly. Results are good for us - we have to take advantage now and get the W tomorrow, and then we can be in a truly magnificent position going into the second half of the season. There are a lot of teams in the middle of the table that can beat each other on any given day, and a few of the teams towards the bottom showing some signs of life as well.
"You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."
The HTB against Yeo to gift North a goal to put them in front was an absolute shocker. He did not have any prior opportunity.
No. Yeo was on the ground, dragged the ball in, didn't dispose of it. Clear cut HTB. Prior opportunity irrelevant.
Hard to tell from the telecast precisely, but in the lead up to that point it looked like a North's player was tripped, then it looked like Yeo got Wardlaw (I think ?) around the head. (Wardlaw certainly complained about it to the ump). So perhaps some karma in any case?
I don't think either team deserved points out of that Suns Saints game. Turgid, slow, ball movement, and any time a player tried to go quickly it turned sloppy. Several players with feet glued to the ground watching a player pick up the ball and dispose of it with no effort to tackle or smother.
Sure, the umpiring decision at the end that determined the result was iffy (I'm being kind) but every single player out there made far more mistakes than the umpires did.
I think the players are under a fair bit more pressure than the umpires are. No one is trying to tackle them or outrun them or mark the
ball over their heads. They should just put the whistle away for the last few minutes in really tight games. And they should be able to
handle a bit of criticism. This sacrosanct thing has gone to their heads.
St Kilda’s decision to bring back Ross Lyon is looking as inspired as the time they “won trade week” in 2019 by recruiting Dougall Howard, Dan Butler and co. A club that habitually gets its assessment of the list wildly wrong.
This is Lyon's fifteenth year as a head coach and without a premiership. He was an assistant coach with us in 2005. He is 58 this
year, so you've got to think this stint with St Kilda is his last dance. I was surprised when he got the Saints gig again last year.
I would think that coaches in their 40s have a closer understanding of how the modern game is played than a guy pushing 60.
Does anyone have any preference in the Carlton v Essendon game?* I've got a feeling I might be disappointed, because I'm hoping for a draw.
*Besides injuries and suspensions.
I tipped the Blues and as I suspected Essendon are not going well against a top eight opponent. I think they will fade in the second half of the season.....pretenders.
I have no preference really but a Bombers loss will put us 8 pts clear on top of the ladder with a game in hand.

I did an analysis recently that confirmed this by showing that six of Essendon's seven or eight wins were against the bottom six teams at the time.
Geelong had a similar record earlier when they were on top with 7-0. Geelong has only won one game since (against Richmond).
Like Geelong, Essendon will be found out when they play some more top teams.
