This mistake was inexcusable. The Arc is there for a reason and they should have called for a review after the goal was paid.Plenty of howlers in that match but the most unforgivable is the third umpire not deeming a point for a goal paid to the pies.It was very clearly touched in the replay and it makes you wonder if the AFL is lying about video reviews of every goal.

We were the beneficiary of exactly that scenario in a close match v Crows in Adelaide in 2017. Mills took a mark and clearly went to play on by taking a few steps and was tackled and brought down by Eddie Betts. Mills knew he was done — the look of guilty despair on his face said so. But ump hadn’t called play on and we got the 50 metre penalty which quickly turned into a goal. With only about 5 mins left that took us to within 3 points of the Crows and a win at the siren.
Lol, Crows have a few umpiring decisions in matches v us to harbour grudges about.

Exactly. How many times do you see players approaching or standing the mark and gesturing to the umpire they believe the offensive player has played on and itching to get off the mark? She's effectively said there's a point at which they're free to make the call for themselves. It's absolute madness, and it will actually make it far harder for the umpires.
I had hoped with McLachlin having left the building the AFL might occasionally take a small step in the right direction; but with this sort of pretzel-like logic, it's pretty clear you need to be a high-grade nincompoop to get a job there.'Delicious' is a fun word to sayComment

The explanation from Laura Kane was ridiculous. I don't understand why the AFL can't just be honest.
She hasn't had a good weekend. In an interview with SEN she said that the changes to Father Son and Academy bid matching could be introduced this year and that clubs are all aware of it. The clubs that have been contacted, have all said they have no knowledge about the changes happening this year. They aren't happy because all the planning and pick swapping was done based on the current rules. Now this is potentially going to change. The AFL is so unprofessional.Comment

Speaking of McLachlin, it says everything about the types of people our league sees as fit to run it now that he has become head of TAB, the biggest gambling company in the country, ie: scum....which is the word I use for anyone who runs, profits from or even promotes gambling. They are of zero use to a healthy society.....they are basically legal criminals.Comment

Yep. This is confirmation of all the worst things people have been saying about the AFL for years.Speaking of McLachlin, it says everything about the types of people our league sees as fit to run it now that he has become head of TAB, the biggest gambling company in the country, ie: scum....which is the word I use for anyone who runs, profits from or even promotes gambling. Looks like Sam Taylor is out for the Giants, with a...umm...ruptured testicle. According to the AFL site, he suffered the injury during last week's game against Port. But I just checked and the stats say that he played 100% game time...I just don't understand!?Comment

Played 100% of the game? I was going to say something like 'he was having too much of a ball' but nah, I won't.
Seriously though, it really doesn't make sense that sometime during the game he wasn't writhing around on the ground screaming "get me off!!".Comment

Shambolic, utterly shambolic. The explanation from Laura Kane was ridiculous. I don't understand why the AFL can't just be honest.

Hopefully it happened at the final whistle, due to overenthusiastic celebrations with his team mates.Comment

Change merchant, spin doctor and autocratic manager. It's interesting that not long back teams and media were whinging about Gold Coast picking up 5 academy picks, and apparently they have another 5 this year. So who were the whinging sides. The AFL form is that it has a knee jerk reaction to issues. eg. the recent change to the holding the ball rule.
So much talking without substance.Comment
