    Malcolm/Scott on Riewoldt

Just saw the footage of the incident (thanks Channel 9!) and I've got to say that it was a pretty low act. I've always had great respect for the physical nature of the Lions game. However, trying to bump Riewoldt's injured shoulder when the ball was at least 50m away was disgraceful and they should be ashamed. I can't agree with Garry Lyon and Dermott Brereton who termed it 'sportsmanship' and said there was nothing wrong with it. I wonder if the AFL will take any action against the two?

I haven't seen the incident, nor will I get a chance to, but from what I've read from the match report on foxsports.com.au, it doesn't like very sporting behaviour.

while the incident made me sick at the time, in hindsight, michael and scott had full rite to do that. riewoldt was walking back to position, albeit very gingerly. he wasnt walking to the bench and he wasnt in the arms of trainers. therefore, he is fair game.

i feel sorry for riewoldt, but if it was lloyd id be cheering!

I watched the game and thought it was very low play. It was obvious that he had hurt himself when he went for the mark (and apparently earlier in the replays). The two of them came up and maliciously and deliberately hit him on the injury. Regardless of the legality, it was very poor behaviour.

It was a very aggressive game, will be interesting to see what reports arise.

From what I understand Riewoldt injured himself then went to the Forward line, he really should have gone off the field and to be honest it is probably fair enough they gave him some bumps. It is certainly not the first time someone has tested out a sore spot on an opposition player.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

It seems a bit ordinary, however Riewoldt remained in the field of play, was walking back to his position and there were no trainers around, so it's a normal thing for players to do to put off the opposition. They certainly couldn't have known how injured it was at the time.

I disagree. It was totally unsportsmanlike, was obviously orchestrated and brought the game into disrepute. Should earn them both a few weeks, with Scott to get a couple more for that second punch on Hamill (the first could be argued as a missed spoil but not the second).

I want to see skill and bravery on field, not brutality and thuggery.

I didn't realise Riewoldt was heading back to the forward line as Channel 9 didn't show the incident 'live'. The commentators were the first the note the incident as it was off the ball and all I could see from the replay was Michael and Scott making a beeline for Riewoldt from some distance and giving him a nice old bump.

Don't get me wrong - I don't like. I don't like any sort of gamesmanship. However, I think they need to be careful how they treat it as it happens frequently.

I thought it was obvious they were gunning for Riewoldt, a couple of minutes before the incident, Charman went crashing into Riewoldt unnecessarily. As for Chris Scott, he was at it all night and I don't feel sorry that he had two teeth knocked out.

I thought they deliberately set up to aggravate him - they played all night roughly and like thugs. Will be interesting to see us play them in a few weeks. Hope Barry H keeps his cool and we can outmuscle and outsmart them. They all looked set las night to be thugs.

They think they won last year with their attitude - oh boythey are going to be hard to beat.

Reading what Chris Scott had to say in a post-match interview, he basically said if a guy is running back into position, he's fair game, but there's no way they would have done that had he been heading to the bench. He also said had it been someone like Barry Hall, nothing would have been made of it

Personally speaking, I think it was pretty low, and was pushing the edge of fair play, but I guess that's what top level sport is about - pushing the boundaries to get any advantage you can.

I loved it. I thought it was smart move. Holy cow is Nick like the most precious player ever to play football.

Lets remind ourselfs people..this is football. Its a rough game and things happen on the field. You want a pansy game watch basketball or netball.

As for suspension..what a pathetic suggestion. Poor Nicky poooo.

Jesus going on by the reaction down here today Nick is a golden boy and should not be touched.

And for his crying...bah would we have ever seen Paul Kelly cry? A captain does not sulk like he did in front of his team mates.

Bah enough of this pansy boy alreay!!!

I for one, loved it! If he wants to try and act courageous and stay on the field with a severely injured shoulder he deserves to be 'tested out". If he was on the ground or seeking medical attention, then yes it would be disgraceful, but he was going back to continue to play... if you dont like the physical nature of footy, change the channel.
Thats how i like my footy to be!!

Well I kind of expected that from Scott, thats his style, he is a niggly little bastard and one day someone is really going to deck him.
