Seeing he decided to stay on the field with a broken collarbone and was only forced to leave because he got a little bump from Chris Scott and Mal Michael, i wonder what people think would have happened to him the very next time he was involved in a contest, if he didn't end up leaving the field when he did?

For my 2 cents worth, I though Michael's and Scott's behaviour was cowardly, unsportmanlike and unethical. I dont think that still being on the field makes an injured player "fair game". No player should set out to deliberately injure or increase an injury to another player.

It's more practicle to leave it as Riewoldt. St Kilda have a habit of leaving injured players on the field and then changing the facts to suit themselves - ie Stephen Baker.

I'd like to think that if one of the Swans had a broken collarbone, they wouldn't be going back into position. Lucky for us that Grant Thomas and his trainers weren't in charge the team that went to Ireland.

I hope this article can put a rest to the whole Scott/Michael thing. Key quotes are below.

While St Kilda captain Nick Riewoldt recovered from surgery yesterday, his coach Grant Thomas claimed some responsibility for the attack launched on his star forward in Thursday night's season-opener at the Gabba, conceding that Riewoldt should have been removed from the ground sooner.

After confirming Riewoldt had undergone surgery to have a plate inserted into his broken right collarbone, Thomas said the club's medical staff should have insisted that Riewoldt leave the field immediately to prevent the controversial attack launched on him moments later by Brisbane Lions defenders Mal Michael and Chris Scott.

"I think he came off pretty well quickly, but there was a period of about 10 to 15 seconds where the trainers weren't with him or didn't stay with him. They are processes we will talk about at the club and we'll get them improved," he told Triple M radio.

Riewoldt, making his captaincy debut, broke his right collarbone in a double-barrelled incident in the third quarter: he was collected late in a marking contest by Lions ruckman Jamie Charman, and moments later crashed heavily into the turf while attempting a diving chest mark.

But after being attended on the ground by St Kilda staff, he headed back towards the full-forward line, where Michael and Scott cannoned into him, sparking two days of public outrage and debate.

After expressing his surprise at the continuing debate, Thomas said the incident could have been avoided if Riewoldt had left the field immediately after receiving the injury, which could leave the skipper sidelined for up to eight weeks.

"If Nick had just dived, broken his collarbone, stood up and been taken straight off the ground, there would be no discussion, it would have just been a very unfortunate incident - which it is," he said.

The coach's stance seems to be far removed from his views on Friday, when he publicly aired his dissatisfaction with the Brisbane duo. In contrast, Thomas defended Michael and Scott yesterday, saying they could not have realised the extent of Riewoldt's injury when they bumped him.

Actually what Chris Scott said was that there wouldn't be all this furore if the player hurt was for example, Barry Hall. He didn't elaborate on what he meant.
I think basically he's calling revolt a sook

Later on it turns out that the injury was quite serious, will require an op. and a few weeks on the sidelines. Personally, Ruda, would you think that's great to watch?
No it would be sad on a team aspect. But boy would the next bris v swans game be great to watch

                      haha, this is funny.

So much on such a little incident.

I blame the AFL for trying to make our games like touch football.

Firstly, if it was a Swans player in place of Riewoldt, I swear to me I would not visit this site for a couple of weeks until all the crying and bitching had died down.

Secondly, I wish the Swans would play this tough and hard brand of football.
It is the difference between a flag and runners up IMO.

                      He was injured.
The Brisbane players didn't know how injured he was and if there was no serious injury this wouldn't have even seen a replay.
He stayed on the feild, he got bumped.
                      Big deal.

I suppose if the ball had drifted towards him all the Brisbane players should have walked away and let him take the mark too?
The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.

riewoldt was fair game, brisbane made him pay for staying there.

If he wants to cry get off the ground, the saints were too busy comforting riewoldt at the breaks. I thought it wasnt too good as a captain to sit there crying his eyes out

It been blown into a big incident though

Riewoldt commented on the incident on Melbourne's Channel 9 news today. His general attitude was a forgiving one, and he said that during the incident he didn't know himself that he had fractured his collarbone.

What those two Lions cheats did on Riewoldt was a dog act!
Well done Craig Bolton for getting the co- captaincy in 2008.

C'mon Undies. If they get rubbed out for that every player and his dog will be faking injuries making sure they get left alone.
