AFLW Round 10: West Coast / Waalitj Marawar. Saturday 2 November 2024 3:05 PM - Henson

In: Ruby Sargent-Wilson, Lara Hausegger, Montana Beruldsen, Holly Cooper, Kiara Hillier
Out: Maddy Collier (suspended), Alice Mitchell (injured), Lisa Steane, Aimee Whelan, Paige Sheppard (all omitted)

    What to play for?

For some it's a last chance to impress, for others that chance may have been and gone.

Brooke Lochland's final game, so hopefully the team can give their first marquee player a good send off.

I hope it's a noice day - see you on the hill.

Nice to finish off the year with a win.

Privitelli had another great game - absolutely superb in the air. If only she was a little more judicious with the around-the-corner kick. Another 2 misses this week where decided against the drop punt while almost directly in front.
Bella Smith scored 5 goals, if only she could take some overhead marks she'd be an ideal key forward. Still she should enjoy her game.
At the other end of the ground, WC tall Amy Franklin gave us a headaches. Would the missing Alice Mitchell have made the difference or do we need another key defender?
In the mids, Gardner and Kennedy did their thing, and Hurley, Ham and Cynthia all showed serious class.

Yes, good to get a final win, in a season where I don't think we ever got our best side on the field.

I was also encouraged by Smith's game. Hopefully the big haul will give her plenty of encouragement over the off-season and she'll return a genuine key target. Was also encouraged by Ham spending a bit more time around the ball, after early season injuries had her mainly playing forward. She's so classy when she gets it. If Molloy is back to her best next year, those two will be a very dangerous combination, alternating between midfield and the forward line. Throw in Morphett as well, to the mix of Gardiner, Hamilton and Hurley, then there's the basis of a very classy midfield.

Hurley was the player that I was most pleased with this year. With a bit more responsibility, she seemed to step up, to get plenty of the ball and used it very well when she had it. Certainly my tip for our best and fairest.

Bella Smith was named at full forward in the AFLW team of the week, while Privitelli and Gardiner were on the interchange bench.

5 goals is hard to argue with.
I do have reservations regarding her overhead marking, but this is her 4th season she has only just turned 23 - so improvement is still on the cards.
